Keel guard for 19' Angler

I would like to add a keel guard to my 2006 19' Angler to safely beach it but I do not know what length to order. Help?

I looked at doing Keel Guard on my 22 at one time. There are many possibilities, both in how high you want it to come and how low, or how far down the stem you want. I had decided to run all the way from the hull/deck joint at the top, down to where the bow stem runs out into the bottom. I was going to cut out for the bow loop. That would allow for a bit of a bump on the trailer post if needed. (hummm, probably should have done that Embarassed

OR, you can put it on where ever you want. Enjoy.

Thanks, Harvey. I guess the bottom line (pun intended) is I need to pull her out of the water and put a tape measure on her before ordering the keel guard. Did you decide not to use the keel guard?

Just went out and measured. On my boat the brass strip starts about 4" below the bottom of the U-bolt plate, and it is @67" long in total. It runs from there aft to where there is a skeg/keel on the hull, and I don't see how a rubber keel guard would lie flat any further aft than that.

So starting at the top of the stem (by anchor roller):

- There is a short bit of stem that goes forward before a "point" where it turns to go down and aft - I didn't count that at all.

- There is 24" of stem with nothing on it.

- There is 3" accounted for by the U-bolt and its base plate.

- Then a 4" gap with nothing.

- Then @67" of brass strip

- Then the skeg/keel starts, so the strip would no longer fit naturally.

Here's a drawing. On my boat the U-bolt is below the halfway point of the 3rd strake down, approximately as shown:

Wow, Sunbeam, that is great. I think I'll order the 6' version and leave Bobby Lou in the water for now. Weather predicts 70 on Tues and 74 on Wed. January thaw. Thanks for your help.

Great drawing. Good to know I am not the only person who is thinking about a keel guard.

I plan on updating my previous post about a leak in my brass stem guard. I found two screws that were too long and have opted to fill the holes and install a keel guard. The thought of screwing back into the hull is less appealing, since the boat lives in salt water year round. I plan on installing the keel guard this on Wednesday and Thursday, depending on the temperature.

I have also read on other sites that folks have had increased success with putting a bead of 4200 around the edges below the water line. I will likely do that as well.

I will post back here and let everyone know how it goes.
