All rightie!!! June 30th was delivery day for Little Catelyn, and she looks great! I'm sure you can all imagine the size grin I had as I first glanced at our new boat. Wow! But the nicest thing was the presentation -- once aboard I was greeted with a 'Welcome Aboard' mat, and inside the cabin was a bottle of champaign with two glasses and a darling piece of artwork above the forward window. The crew at E.Q. did a wonderful job!

I would go on and on, but I've had a long day and since a picture is worth a thousand words... well, you'll just have to check out my photo album.

So, just two more weeks until the Blakely cruise!

Congratulations! I know just how you feel. Even though Valkyrie has been in the driveway for over a week now, I still fond myself looking out the window or going out to gaze at her during the day.

Congratulations! Looks like you've got some new toys to play with (i.e. Raymarine Radar System). I guess will be storage neighbors, we keep C-Dancer at Twin Bridges too.

Hey, I wish our boat was out in the driveway. That really is one downside to dry storage --- separation anxiety. Especially now, when we have so many new things to check out and so much to learn.

For our sea trial, Les took us down to where we could see the buoys that mark the South entrance to the Swinomish channel. I had reviewed my charts prior to delivery day, but it was very reassuring to have Les take us down there first. With that and the chartplotter, the trip home was almost relaxing. Well, let's just say that everything went smoothly for a couple of nervous newbies.

I had thought that we would stop for dinner at La Conner on our way, but by the time we arrived there we just wanted to get her home -- we might do the dinner thing after I've had some experience docking her. When we arrived at Twin Bridges they had already closed so we just tied her up and left -- sure felt odd just leaving her there all alone. And wouldn't you know it --- I left my manuals aboard.

Lynn had to work until 4pm on Saturday, so by shortly after 5pm we were out on the boat for a little trip around Guemes Island. It was a little windier once we rounded the North end of the island and the door to the cabinet under the helm kept flying open, so I got out the trusty phillips-head and adjusted the catch. Wow, my first repair -- and it stayed put for the rest of the trip. Much easier than it was to leave her tied up at the dock again, but this time I did remember to take my manuals with me.

Corwin, Congratulations on your new vessel. Yes, EQ does a great job on new boat set ups. I can remember your feeling when Sherryl and I we dragging FreeByrd back to Alabama from Oak Harbor. The 1st night in a Holiday Inn Express (which we stayed in as we crossed our Country), it was raining, foggy...but she looked great sitting on the trailer hooked to the truck just waiting for her turn in the water. Look forward to seeing you at Blakely and new new Raymarine toys too.

Corwin - I did not get a chance to say at Blakely how COOL your teak grab rails are! How did you come up with the idea to go teak? I just never occurred to us. What inspired you?

I was quite amazed at the all the attention Little Catelyn received over her teak handrails. I was looking forward to attending the Blakely cruise to check out all the neat modifications others have made to their boats --- never occurred to me that so many would be interested in our otherwise 'stock' boat.

As for the inspiration, well, it came from all the photos of the boats I found here on this site. The teak handrails on the earlier boats just called to me. And a boat as salty as these C-Dories just plain needs a little teak to stay in character. So, when I set out to order our boat, the first thing I asked about was if they could install these instead of the standard stainless rails.

And I have to tell you, I rather like them too! Someday I hope to address the cabinets -- sure like the teak drawers that some have added...

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the inside grab rails are also teak. While the boat was under construction I thought and thought about how I would install teak grab rails on the inside. It wasn't until LATE in the game that I asked Les about the inside rails -- actually, sometime after the boat was at his shop -- and he said that it would be no problem! Really, really glad we have those inside handrails, too!
