I noticed something on my radar screen this morning when i was adjusting the settings that i cannot remember if they were there before...

i do not remember the cross hairs being there before and the bearing line and cross hairs do not match up exactly. I wonder if i messed things up?

You didn't break anything. Try moving the EBL around--it may be just off a degree or so. Also the X can be moved, as I recollect-so try moving that _________________ Bob Austin

Roger,
Nice use of the pedestal for the speaker mount. Any thoughts on the affects of the speaker/magnet on the radar? I think it looks very cool.

No effect whatsoever on the radar. In the old days when radars used magnetrons to produce the transmitted signal it *might* have mattered. Now days when everything is solid state, no problem fur sure. _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

Installed my new radar pedestal today, took all day to removed the radar and wiring...long time to seal the holes and drill new ones, than re-install everything. Was wondering if i should of used a backing plate for the pedestal, the pedestal doesn't have a very large footprint . Is the use of a backing plate common procedure or is the roof really strong enough for the weight of the radar. Will take some more pictures tomorrow.Tug |

Tug,
Is the foot print the same size as the radar-mount plate. It looks like that would be sufficient, (to me), but I am not a pro at this. My Scan Strut Power tower base plate is about that size and it does not have a backing plate on the inside. Only large washers.
I have been watching this thread because I am going to have to remove my radar and have the pedistal re powder coated. Not really looking forward to that.

I ended up removing the pedestal, did not like it on my boat. Mounted the radar on a Seaview 4 degree wedge directly on the roof. painted the radar base white using Krylon Fusion Plastic paint. Monday i will be changing the Furuno letters from blue to black and will post some pictures. Question is : will the Cable Cam from Blue Sea Systems work on my C-Dory's roof..the roof's thickness is only around 1/4 inch or so..that leaves doing any undercutting out of the question and the screws really will not be very effective. It looks like the radar is inclined up at the front. I always thought that one installed the radar so that it would point slightly down, to compensate for the rise in the bow when underway/planing? I would think that pointing down would give you a better look angle when that bow comes up, so that the radar would be level and could see closer to the boat.
Any comment?
