Thanks everyone for a great trip. Lou (on Skimmer) asks me to crew because I do what he wants without a lot of questions. I only dropped one thing overboard (some gadget, I’m still not sure what it was) so he’ll probably ask me to crew again.
I thought it was great being on the largest (25 foot) C-Dory. More than one of you (on the much smaller, 22 foot boats) said, “wow, three more feet sure makes a lot of difference” and, “three more feet would be great.” Then we had to put it back on the trailer when, “three more feet sure makes a lot of difference” wasn’t that great.
It’s all a matter of perspective, though.
The line handler at Coinjock Marina while securing our five boats that barely peeked over the dock said, “Usually we have boats here that we can actually see.”
I noticed that Coinjock Marina tied us up at the far end of their 1200-foot pier and tied up the big, luxury yachts in front of the restaurant where everyone could admire them.
And, coming up the intercoastal waterway across the Currituck Sound the big Sea Ray from Occoquan, Virginia (“Job Site”) wanted to pass us. He came up on channel 16 and said, “Five little outboards. Passing you to port.” (Five little outboards?! Was he talking to us?)
Come to think of it, I’ve got to find a friend with a boat that has showers and staterooms and a galley. And a cook! Guess I’m not going to find her by hangin’ around a C-Brats website!
Thanks again,
Bob |

Hi Lou;
It was great to take the pixs of you as you readied SKIMMER for docking at the Visitor's Center on the Ditch. It is good to have a willing and agile crew member who can run forward on a CD.
Years back when I was running my 18' SeaRay to Coinjock from Va. Beach and back, I notice a "large" cruiser heading south to Coinjock. It happened to be Donald Trump's boat at the time. The captain called ahead to Coinjock to see if the marina had enough deisel fuel for a fill. When Coinjock ask how much they required, Trump's skipper replied 1900 gallons (as I remember). There was a pause and then Coinjock said they would have it ready by the time they arrived. (Trump's boat was abt 1 mile from the NC line heading south during this comm.) Needless to say he did not have a problem at the Coinjock bulkhead dock.
That was a very busy and profitable Saturday afternoon with 'snow-birds' heading south; even if we did get chased out of the channel by some ferry skippers.
As a CD25 owner, now, I am glad we don't get hit by those big fuel bills; such as Trump's 'cruiser'.

Bob,
Thanks for the reflections from our trip. You may not find a luxury liner hanging around this site, but you will find some great people and good times. I hope you and Lou will join us again for a future cruise.

Apparently I don't really know how to use this forum. I expected my comments to show up under the Carolina Loop section with all the other comments. Instead I must have started a new topic. Duh. |

in response to Pandy Girl & Jim,
I don't own a boat at all. I just crew on Skimmer about once a year.
