With a holiday weekend looming the Admiral has decided that its time to start the cruising season, so heads up:

There will be brats (two of us, anyway) on the Connecticut River both Friday and Saturday nights. Seems like the The Brats are under-represented here on the LIS, so would be happy to see one or two of you along our travels.

Here is where we will be:

180 miles round trip, a great time a happy crew and 33 gallons of gas.( our outrider, Bill; in his 21 Steigercraft cooked 71 gallons.of course he beat us by an hour both ways, but hey)..not a bad first cruise! Still have a lot to learn about all my fancy new systems, but we made great progress this weekend! saw a boat belonging to a fellow brat too...marina manager swears he's a real cool guy. Exact Lee was the name of the CD22.

Nice folks running the Seaboard marina too..The free coffee and donuts didnt hurt relations any either.

I did learn one imporant thing about our boat and crew and that is..90 miles is pushing the limit of how far we want to cruise in a single day...how about we try 50 next time, hhhh?

hey, its all good.

Where about is Sea Board Marina? Is it in the Hartford area. We boat out of Brunelles Marina, South Hadley, MA.

Congrats on the first overnight with your boat! 90 miles is a lot, depending on the speed you run. We've done that a couple times, but 50 or less is a nice, easy pace. How did you find the accommodations? What would you do different after spending a night onboard? Did you have the opportunity to try out all the systems on the boat? How 'bout some details? (That first night out often sets the tone for how you'll use the boat.)

Best wishes,
Jim B.

I agree with Jim. I have run a 90 mile day and it's doable but it isn't our normal style. We can do 10 miles and be in another interesting spot. I find here in BC we can stay a day or two in a nice place then move 10 to 15 miles for a day or two then do a 10 to 15 mile. I find we are often at 7-8 mph poking along. I tend to cross the open spots like Haro strait or Georgia strait early like dawn or evening at 18 to 20 mph to "git er done". These boats are fun to take it close to the beach and potter along looking for critters. The one challenge with long runs out is if you are on a schedule to be back you may have crummy weather to get home and 50 plus miles of heavy weather is no fun. I find my last evening I am within 10 miles or less of home base and really keeps the weather worries down. Enjoy the boat. Many more great trips. George

Details? well, I didnt hook up the shore power, but will next time..we watched 90% of a good movie (The Pope of Greenwich Village) when the laptop battery went dead.

Did not use the two burner alky stove..we did coffee annd eggs with our coleman propane camp stove, and for dinners, Seaboard had a nice Weber gas grill for us to use. They also had showers and full lavatories, so those bases were covered.

Might consider using the convertable bunk under the dinnette next tme too..maybe not..depends upon morale with the rest of the crew.

I did use the running water in the galley..came in handy for doggie water and coffee. Admiral wants to fill the tank with cheap white wine..what a concept.

As for piloting the boat, wll i learned a lot about taking wakes, throttle and trip controll.

Lastly, i have always thought of GPS as just a cool gadget..with the fog we has Saturday Morning..I am now a beleiver!

What fun!
