Folks who don't own a Whaler can't understand the dilemna . . .

As for the wet/sloppy, I came cruising in the other day with a buddy who'd never been on a C-Dory (but had been on all my Whalers). Anyway, we're coming in with an onshore breeze stacking waves up against an outgoing tide and we're watching the V-hulls jocky throttles, and taking a terrific beating as they blow past for the channel, while we cut across the flats (3 feet) and beat quite a few of them in even though we're doing 16 mph. After watching the pounding they're going through, my buddy decides this C-Dory is a much more civilized way to boat . . . When we get to the dock, he's astounded by all the fuel we didn't burn with the 4 stroke Merc. On a trip we'd have split the bill for 40 gallons on in the old boat, he was on the hook for 8 . . . and the C-Dory got the Joe Tarochione seal of approval (not easy to get).

Good luck with whatever length you purchase. You can't go wrong either way.

Hey Guts, my offer still stands. I'm about 2 miles east of I-5. Be glad to meet you at a launch ramp as well. Who is the "new dealer" in Los Angeles? I better check the list. Thought Steve at Elco Marine had that area.

Thanks Don I realy want to look at the 19& 16 first I cant find the number right now but they are the bigest honda dealer in southern cal. that will make two dealers in L A... I will probly be looking at Suzuki or Yamie. have a Suzuki now and like it. honda should use injuctors in my opion. Please excuse my spelling I'm in a hurry.

As most here have indicated the C-Dory is truly a sea worthy vessel. I don't think you'll hear anyone say otherwise. There are faster and smoother hauls for operation in purely choppy waters but a C-Dory will handle the swells and chop very nicely at speeds between 12-16 knots most any day. Also as mentioned above the C-Dory is much more stingy on the fuel than the deep V's. I travel out in the Gulf of Alaska regularly the boat is more than capable of handling 6 foot or better seas. Passengers more often than not are the ones that can't take the seas. If safety is a concern I think you'd find a good match with the C-Dory. Outside of concerns of storage, I would recommend looking at some of the older 22' C-Dorys with newer 4 stroke outboards, a lot more boat imo for about the same money as the 16 and 19 footers new.
