I was planning to buy an ANCOR unit on eBay but there are other choices. I have an electrical heat gun which works fine but a butane torch would be more convenient and take up less tool box storage space. Any recommendations? _________________ Brent Barrett |

Any respectable electrician will cringe at the knucle dragger that heats shrink tube with a torch!! |

I use a small butane pencil style torch, it is easy to maneuver and doesn't take much storage space. About 15-25 dollars at a Home Depot. _________________ Patti and Barry

I just use a Box lighter. Cheap and 3 or 4 of them scattered about take up very little space. _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

Ditto. Got mine @ Harbor Freight for $10. Just make sure you have a butane cylinder for re-fills. _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."

Typed "Bic" lighter - phone "autocorrected" it to Box... Anyway - Big lighter - does the job, fits in a pocket or tackle box and I usually have 2-3 on board. |

Yup, not only that, but the Bic Lighter should be listed in the "Great Items for Boats Costing $20 or Less" thread. Many, many uses. Keep them in a sealed Zip-Loc waterproof bags for emergencies, various utility uses, etc. (Great for melting the ends of synthetic ropes together.)
A long, narrow BBQ piezoelectric lighter also is a great tool to light stoves, heaters, loooooooong cigars etc.

I also have a very small torch attachment that converts a Bic lighter into a butane torch. Like the one sold here. I don't use it for heat shrink but it works fine for small soldering jobs. It takes up a lot less space than a regular butane or propane torch. |
