|
|
I was thinking of putting together a gathering at Fishermans Terminal around the first part of March. I have talked to the harbor master and he is very excited about doing this.
We would be able to reserve a whole dock with 600' of space. There would be some electricity available but not for everyone, kind of like Bellingham. The charge would be $0.80 a foot per boat. If there were any overflow that did not want to raft he would find other spaces. They also have a banquet room we can get for the pot luck, $25 for four hours use.
Those who do not know about Fishermans Terminal it is the commercial space for the fishing/crabbing fleets including the boats from Deadliest Catch. It has a mix of commercial and pleasure craft that are moored there. It also has some very nice resteraunts including "Chinooks" that is right next to the dock.
You are also very close to the locks and a short walk over into Ballard. There are many marine stores close by and short bus rides into downtown.
If folks are interested in doing this I will follow up with the harbor master and we can talk about it at the SBS gathering.

I'd be up for that. Good way to do a shakedown run before Springer season. _________________ Rick & Shirley

Sounds great. Maybe have a little cruise around Lake Union while we're at it. In any case, count me in. _________________ MartyP

Fred – I am up for it as long as we don’t have gale force winds. Don’t want to drive but would be very happy to run up there by boat from Olympia.
Thank you for putting on this gathering. It had been getting kind of slim for PNW gatherings the last couple of years.

Hello Fred! Hope you are well.
As you know, we do not fish and we are 'weather wimps' as far as boating is concerned (March is likely way too cold for us!), but I just wanted clarification on the below point for future reference.
Is it required to transit any locks to get to the Fisherman's Terminal facility by boat coming from parts further west such as P.T. (Port Townsend) or such?
Obviously, we have never been there and I cannot quite determine this info from Waggoner's. Also it does not seem clear on the "Fisherman's Terminal" related websites I have seen.
Your insights and experience is appreciated although we will likely not attend unless we drive over for a visit.
Look forward to seeing you and everyone else at the SBS Gathering.
Take care and enjoy the holidays,

Dan, maybe we could buddy boat over if the weather is OK. I'd like to make it too but not sure where the "Fishermans Terminal" is yet.
Fred thanks for taking the initiative. Give us "out westers" a few more hints on where. I's sure like to try and make it. Thanks.
Harvey

Hi Dan,
Yes it is necessary to transit the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks (AKA Ballard Locks) in order to access Fisherman's Teminal. The route takes you past the Shilshole Marina to the locks. Fisherman's Terminal is located between the locks and Lake Union. _________________ Dave S.

We would be interested in joining a flotilla heading down. We've been there before and have been through the locks so maybe that would work. Fisherman's terminal is on the right immediately before the Ballard bridge. good restaurants and a good chandlery within walking distance. |
