Anyone ever had this happen ? This happened on the Delta, one day the charts were working and the next they were not... I wrote to Navionics and they said my chip was a 2005 model and there is only a one year warintee on the chips....so I do I really have to buy another $199 chip ? and will it just ranomely disappear over and over again ?
I talked to West Marine and they said the new C80 Raymarine units come preloaded with charts...and their solution for me was to just re-purchase charts...and hope.

Ideas?

Thanks

Joel

I would try and find another C-80 and plug your chip into it. I'm not a Raymarine guy but it seems odd the the chip would loose all of its data at least if the chip does not work elsewhere at least you will know where you stand.

Hi Joel, sorry to hear about the issue. Unfortunately pretty common. What works sometimes is to pull the chip. Power down and wait 30 seconds then power up. Reinsert the chip and go to the menu to be sure the unit is reading the chip you want. The c80 doesn't know that the chip you put in is the chip you want. One of it's issues. Hopefully there was nothing like a voltage spike thru the system or any other issue. This is something we see daily in BC when US cruisers come in to Nanaimo. As they enter Canada the plotter "falls off" the map and gets confused. When we plug in a BC chip we go to the menu and tell it to read this chip. Mostly it works. Sometimes the poor plotter is confused enough it needs to go to the shop. Hope it goes for you, it was a pleasure to meet you in Lake Almanor. How is the Delta? I'm heading there late next week. George

These chips are not mysterious. They have the same memory technology as the typical "thumb drive." They are notoriously very reliable. Though highly unlikely, it is possible that there could be a bent pin there somewhere, so looking down in the chip slot with a powerful flashlight would be a good place to start. Also take a good look at the chip pins, but, DO NOT try cleaning them or sticking anything pointy into them. You'll kill the chip for sure.

The person who suggested trying the chip on someone else's 80 has the right idea.

Do you have a chip for another area that you've tried that is working right? That would localize the problem to the chip or the 80.

Chips don't just fail without a very strange voltage spike or coffee spill or some such. Also, just make sure it is very snug and correctly seated.

I have a C70 on my boat. It has a fit now and then. I called Raymarine. They said to smack it a couple of times. I did. It worked.
