Larry - I was wondering who would be the first one to spot the Betty Ann. Thanks for the update and pictures. She is a nice looking boat.
I will have to get my map out so I will know where Thatcher Pass is. I have probably been through it, just never paid attention to it's name.

Larry,
Thanks very much for posting those photos!
It's great to see some action shots...something I haven't been able to get yet.

Thatcher Pas is the one the Washington State Ferries travel through on their runs from Anacortes to the San Juans. It's between the north end of Decatur Island and the south end of Blakely Island.

Just as we were told, the boat looks better in the water and with some speed on than sitting on a trailer. Just what we all needed, another thing to lust after!

What color Sunbrella canvas would look the best with this boat?
Would a trim matching blue look more "integrated" with the rest of the boat?
How about building a canvas covered solid tubular frame without struts extended back from the cabin with a roof line that blends in more artfully with the boat's lines? Can this be done with the height requirements in the cockpit?
A fiberglass top cover would also be very nice in matching lines and color!

I'm glad you brought this up Joe. It gives me a chance to note that I think the Sunbrella color shown compliments the stirpe just right, even elegantly . Although I'll never own one (unless they make a 14 footer) I've made this picture my screensaver

Just the bimini top in that color looks pretty good but I also think another color would be best for that boat when it comes to having the sides in place. Darker would be better and not draw so much attention to the canvas. _________________ Greg, Cindie & Aven

Hi Joe,
I've been away a couple of days...sorry I didn't respond sooner.
Of course there's not answer for the first question. Well there is but it's "whatever colors the owners think look best". Truly. That's why there's 31 flavors of ice cream at Baskin Robbins.
As to the second question, it depends on what you want from it. Some folks paint the window trim on their houses to blend in with the house, others paint the window trim a contrasting color to make the windows "pop". Either is fine, it's all in what the owners want it to look like.
In this case the owners wanted to match the striping on the boat with the canvas, and it's also the color of the interior. Others may choose to have the canvas a color closer to the hull color to make it more integrated (as you say) looking. I think either is quite appropriate.
Certainly it would be possible to mount a cantilevered frame to the cabin top that would project over the cockpit. It would require "scallops" at the outboard edges where folks enter and leave the cockpit, otherwise the duck down under the edge would be uncomfortable for most. There's quite a lot of crown in the Marinaut cabin top which means the outside edges are quite a bit lower than the center of the top.
I'll take a look at some of the structures done for the C-Dory 22 and see if we can offer something similar.
A fiberglass cover would be doable but it would have to be raised up above the cabin top to some degree in order to gain the necessary headroom. It could be attached at the forward end to the cabin top but it would need rear (vertical) supports.

Larry,
Thank you for your pictures of our boat at Thatcher Pass!
Joe,
The unfortunate thing about our boat is that it is hard to get an accurate picture of what it looks like unless you see it in person. I would be willing to wager that if you saw it in person, you would think that it is quite well integrated, but then again, your preference may be for other color schemes, which is just as valid as an option. As Les stated, there are lots of choices to choose from. Please check out pictures of our boat that we supplied in our album:
