Well its been seven weeks since i ordered my new trailer and still no trailer in sight.I am beginning to suspect that it is being built in China. Is this normal to have to wait this long to get a new trailer, it was suppose to be here in three weeks??? I am going to the dealer tomorrow and see what is going on, i will tell him that if i do not receive my trailer by the end on August i will cancel my order.Maybe that will inspire him to call EZ-LOADER and find out where it is and what date it will be here. We have several "Trailer builders" in Pensacola--they use stock parts and will build in a couple of days if necessary. (These are aluminum and SS trailers, which can be assembled faster than a rig which may have to be galvanized.) The bigger outfits may have some back order--but usually 2 weeks plus shipping is plenty of time. It may be that there is a delay in finding enough other trailers going "your way" to help cover shipping costs.

I was told by the dealer that EZ-Loader has a new policy and they ship individual trailers as ordered, i should of know better than to fall for that. I was originally going to buy one in Michigan but figured that i would give my local dealer my business seeing that he has been servicing my boat for many years.I will talk to him tommorrow and try to get a definite answer. I would call the maker e-z loader and ask them why your dealer is screwing around. that should light a fire one way or the other.

I called EZ-Loader this afternoon in Florida and they said that i should of received my trailer by now, they said to obtain the Trailers Serial Number from my local dealer and EZ-Loader will track its' where abouts.I went and spoke with my dealer and he said he would send an e-mail and get the Trailers' Serial Number for me.He suspects that the delay is that there are not enough trailers for a flatbed to make the trip to Canada cost efficient. I mentioned that he had told me that EZ-Loader ships one trailer at a time and he told me that i must of mis-understood him in saying that....maybe i did and i will give him the benefit of the doubt. None the less i told him that if the trailer in not here by the end of August i would probably cancel my order and he said it was not a problem with him if i wanted to. Tug

Tug, we really like the float-on aluminum trailer we bought from Mark while we were in Apalachicola, its a much better fit for our CD 25 then our Pacific trailer was and is super to power load on.

I have a Trail-Rite trailer for my 22. The dealer in Ventura gave me an option of going with the factory trailer at the time (2008) or having the local Trail-Rite people build one, as he was about to start using them for his sales, so I went with that. Trail-Rite is very common around here, made in Santa Ana.

Mine showed up with the padded side rails assembled wrong and we had to re-do them at the dealership, although I can't remember the details.

After using the trailer a couple times I realized the winch and bow roller were aligned -under- the bow eye on the boat. This turns out to be really dumb, as the boat often hangs up on the roller and you have to work at it to coax it over. I talked to the dealer and trailer people a time or two, but was getting stonewalled, so I made a couple of simple metal parts and modified it myself. After building as many trailers as they have, they should know not to put the roller underneath, and they should have jumped on a chance to fix the mistake on mine.

A couple years later the brakes failed and I traced it to a really poor job of not strain relieving a stainless brake line and it fatigued the connection. Water had gotten into one brake assembly and I bought a whole new one.

(While bleeding the fluid after that job I found a problem with the master cylinder surge assembly and was trying to fix it but the Lake Powell trip was upon me, so I bought a new assembly there, too.)

That last one maybe wasn't Trail-Rite's fault, but for the first three I consider them to be incompetent, or irresponsible, or sloppy, or just bad people. I'd try to avoid them in the future.

The basic construction of the trailer seems good, and now that I've fixed the problems all seems OK, so I don't expect further problems.

Update: my newly built trailer has been sitting in ( Elkhart. IN ) for some time it seems. I have been told there doesn't seem to be a way to get it up here at the present time. There are not enough trailer orders this time of year to warrant a transport making the trip. The dealer told me today that i could not cancel the trailer i ordered because it was already build, i told him to speak to the EZ-Loader salesman again. They still have the trailer in their lot and if they can't deliver it to me within a reasonable time, they can keep it. If you have not paid them then you can cancal the order. if you have you still can but it maybe harder to get youe money back. I hate when the lie or are lazy and sounds like they were both. I would go else where.

Tug,
Seems like you have an ambidextrous dealer.........he can talk out of both sides of his mouth at the same time.
Yes you can cancel....no you can't cancel.
Yes it will be here in 2 weeks......no it will not be here
YADA YADA.
Makes one want to punch his "lights out" but then that is not civil or legal.
Good luck with the trailer when it eventually gets to you.
For your peace of mind would it not be worth it to go get it yourself???

The dealer called about an hours ago and said that the trailer would be here on August 30 or 31 st. Someone from Elkhart. IN is driving it up .That is pretty close to the Labour Day long weekend and probably will not be able to register the trailer until the following week if the trailer even arrives.I will post some pictures of my New Trailer when it arrives. My trailer arrived Friday Sept.2/2011, i just picked it up at the dealers. I wasn't suppose to get it until Sept.6/2011 but i got the dealer to put the dealers plate on so i can bring it down to the marina Sunday and adjust the boat to the trailer. I will bring it back to the dealer Tuesday so he can register the trailer. The trailer came with leaf springs instead of torsion springs which i didn't want but will live with if he reduces the trailer price for me. There is a switch on the trailer that you turn to disengage the brakes when backing up..cool. Question... how far past the end of the aft bunks does the boat go, the boat itself not including the motor.I will post couple of pictures later today. Tug

Tug,

WOW, you finally got your trailer. Good for you. Sure glad you were not holding your breath.

On my trailer, the aft ends of the bunks are just past (1/2 inch) the aft edge of the transom. If that works for you, good. You want to have the boat sitting so that it gives 5 - 10% of the total weight onto the hitch for tongue weight. That may mean that you have to move the winch post for or aft and that moves the boat for or aft also. Ideally it will finish with the transom sitting on the bunks, not hanging off the aft end.

Hope that helps.

Harvey

Tug, I assume that the trailer has aluminum hub caps, not plastic ones.

If it has plastic caps, ask the dealer to exchange them, or let me know. I have a set of small aluminum hub caps I can send you.
