|

The plastic tanks on my 2001 CD 22 are bulging on the sides, losing their flat shape, and I'm thinking of replacing with Stainless or perhaps aluminium. Is there a standard template for replacement tanks? Who if anyone carries tanks that are designed for my boat? |

All the plastic tanks bulge a bit. Unless yours are unusually bulged, I wouldn't worry about it. _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

Roger's right the plastic tanks all bulge and its normal. I don't think replacing with stainless or alum is going to have any benefits or plastic and you lose the ability to check the fuel level at a glance. Now if you want bigger tanks or saddle tanks ,like Kevin's, then it will be easier to built in aluminum. I really like the saddle tanks that Kevin built and that are incorporated in Dave thompson boats. great idea that gets weight off the stern and opens up a lot of room for storage. _________________ Thomas J Elliott

Stainless fuel tanks are both expensive and more difficult to build. Aluminum, should be made of the proper series of aluminum to resist salt spray.
I would stick with plastic--but there have been some very nice aluminum tanks. _________________ Bob Austin

Thanks guys! One more worry I can put away. It is nice to check the fuel level by sight. What a great boat. I'm headed to Ocracoke, Hatteras and Roanoke Island for the 4th, and we're finding all kinds of cool places to store stuff. |

Don't forget, anything you store on board adds weight, and also, Hope you can find it all later when you need it. I know on my boat i find stuff all the time the i forgot went onboard, ..... last year.
