A better comparison to the Sea Sport 24 would be the CD 25 or the olympic 24.

The C-Dory 25 compares favorably with the Sea Sport 24 (Explorer) in almost every category you listed except speed. If more speed is a better fit, the Olympic 24 is a hard combination to beat. With less deadrise, the Olympic is much more fuel efficient (though no match for a C-Dory) and stable than a Sea Sport. The Olympic, because of its unique hull shape performs in head-seas nearly as well as the Sea Sport and is much more predictable in following sea conditions. However, the Sea Sport 24 and 27 (Navigator) are unmatched for fit and finish.

All hulls are a compromise designed to fit certain needs of us boaters. The C-Dory line has a wide range of appeal. A C-Dory may not be a best fit for everyone but you can bet that it will make the short list. Very Happy

The Sea Sport is a great boat, but it meets different needs than a C-Dory. I had an interesting conversation regarding the differences at a service station outside of Anacortes. As I was filling with gas a woman came up to talk about the C-Dory. She said "we used to have a C-Dory. I really loved that boat. We used it all of the time". I asked her what boat they had now and why they switched. She said "we have a Sea Sport because my husband wanted a faster boat." I said that's a great boat, how do you like it. She said "I only went out on it once, I don't like going that fast."

I don't know the moral of this story because I don't know her husband's motives. If he wanted her along he bought the wrong boat. If he wanted to encourage her to stay home so he could make fast runs to the fishing grounds with his buddies he bought the right boat.

I use to work at the fuel dock here in Seward, Alaska for a couple of years as a teenager and watched many boats coming and going. Sea Sports, Glassply, Boston Whalers, C-Dorys, Olymics , Bayliners, Sea Swirl, ect ect and the only owners that expressed a deep love of their vessels were the C-dory owners. When it came time for me to purchase my first boat it wasnt a hard decision to make. Beyond all the facts mentioned, the C-Dory is a special boat that as far as I'm concerned has no place being compared with any other vessel.

As far as features are concerned though....
1) I fish 50miles out of Seward (100miles round trip) and I couldnt hit my favorite fishing spots regularly with a platform of lesser fuel effiency.
2) I love the beachability of the C-Dory. Restroom breaks, Berry picking in late summer, a chance to stretch the legs, explore, and camp with everything save the kitchen sink.
3) I enjoy lake trips as much as ocean, Kenai Lake is only 19miles away. Trailer ability is a dream.
4) I too didnt like the port side non forward facing seat.....So I changed it. New this year for Waterball is a port side forward facing pedestal seat.
5) Its a C-Dory, its been compared to a Harley before and I think thats a good comparison. There are faster, smoother, & more ammenidies in other boats but there is only one C-Dory.

Waterball: Can you describe how you are going to install your pedestal seat? I have a "85" Angler and a pedestal, which needs to set on a platform to be high enough and still let your feet touch the floor. I have to remove the table to have room. Jack on C-Otter.

The whole interior of my boat including the bulkhead and door has been removed in my boat. Primarily a fishing platform I have made it almost exactly like the 16' and 19' anglers in design. To install the pedestal I sanded the gelcoat to glass and glassed in a 3/4" pc of plywood. Applied a couple coats of gelcoat. I used a standard 2' pedestal from west marine and mounted it with lag bolts and 5200. The plywood was put in to just keep holes out of the deck, I used 1" 1/2 stainless lag screws.
