Who designed the 25 C-Dory? (something I've always wondered)

which one? the current model or the older super cruiser model? what Roger Johnson's boat built? similar hulls but lots of differences in the cabins.

the original 25's were created by the Tolands back in 1995-6.
it is a very good boat but very different interior layout from the current model.

There were only seven of the original C-Dory Cruise Ship 25's made by the Tolands. TyBoo Mike has number 6, and SteveJ has number 3. You can look at their albums to see the cabin layout, and door and window differences. (Sorry if I forgot any other Cruise Ship 25 owners.)

Thanks for all that info and pics re the Cruise Ship, yeah I do notice the different back window.

So if we're talking strictly hull design it would be a Toland for the late model 25's?

Yep. That is correct. When the new style 25 was started (in 2004, I believe) they used the original 25 mold for the hull and created a new mold for the topside. Sometime thereafter, the Reynolds group made a new lower hull mold with some very minor changes, according to what Scot Reynolds told me. I do not know the reason for the change, but it may have had to do with their chosen assembly method when they went to the shoebox fit rather than glassing the top and bottom together while still in the molds.

It is my understanding there were only 6 of the originals made. Four of them are on here and the other two have proven hard to find.

The biggest difference in the cabin is that the entry door is off center to starboard making the port side dinette and head compartment much larger while using the same starboard side galley as the 22 cruiser with the addition of a hanging locker aft since the cabin is longer. The dinette table is large enough to seat four adults comfortably and it makes into a double berth. The head compartment is a lot larger than you would expect on a 25' boat, and there are no windows in it to see aft which creates a blind spot on the port side (it's easy to get used to it and it is not a problem). The other big difference is the roof. The older design has a slightly domed cabin top which is cored and finished with non-skid. It is large enough and stout enough to walk, lay, dance or party on. The newer design uses the traditional and distinctive C-Dory style top.

I think my 27 has the same inside space of the older 25. i just have a lot longer aft deck with the extra 2 ft and no splash well. I end up with a 9 1/2 ft aft deck. I would like to install window in the fore and aft walls of the head for better light and to clear up that blind spot.

I think the 25 is 8'6" beam and the 27 is 8' beam. There is an old brochure somewhere in the documents forum here that lists the specs for your boat.

Our first hands-on experience with a C-Dory was renting Marc Grove's 1996 25 Cruise Ship for about a week. It only had a 90 hp Honda but it was a great boat. I like the old cabin layout better I think. You could really get comfortable in that wide dinette. It also had great storage space in the hanging locker. I believe Marc said it was number four. He has since sold it.

I think you both better check... our 25 is 8.5' beam. I've heard some call it 102", but that sounds way too wide to me. Cool Mr. Green Twisted Evil Maybe we could just go with the average of your two measurements? Xmas Naughty
