Thanks, Jody, got it. Is there one particular model LED you would recommend from your link? This might be the way to go, one of my fixtures seems defective anyway, as it does not work when I put a new 1004 in it even though the multimeter shows it is getting 12 volts to it, so removing the socket is definitely an option here.

You can always take out the socket and solder one of the pc boards with the multiple leds, or you can just break the glass and solder the array onto your socket.

This looks like it might be the most suitable one?

Hi Brats,

A few years ago I started a similar thread after going through the same frustrations that many of you are now experiencing with getting a bulb that doesn't fit/work. I first tried superbrightleds and had little luck. That is why I wound up buying from sailorsolutions.com and was very happy with both their product and service. In fact, at the time I mentioned the C-Brats and possible interest from other C-Dory owners. The owner, Nick, even extended a discount to anyone mentioning the C-Brats at time of order. I'm not sure if that is still in effect, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

Once again, the lights are bright and their service is very good.

Hope this helps,

Nick

Pat,

The 1004 equivalent bulb he sells is here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/12V-63-LED-WARM-WHITE-RV-Marine-Anchor-Light-1142-BA15D-/130440293211?pt=Boat_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item1e5ed8eb5b#ht_694wt_1167

He's being very nice about exchanging the bulbs for me. It will take a little while for the round trip shipping and then I can report on how they work out.

While I have your attention I feel compelled (as in "I just can't stop myself") to say something about the large red "shouting" font in your posts. I can't decide what to say or how to say it, so I'm just typing what I'm thinking because it bothers me. That's all I'm saying. Just take it as one person's vote.

Anyway, as soon as I get the bulbs and make sure they fit and the light is nice, etc. I'll report back here.

Thanks for the information and leads so far.

-Jeff

I ordered one of these bulbs: 1004 LRD Bulb . $15 and free shipping. Will let you'all know how it works next week.

Actually we use the cabin lights very little, but I hope this is a brighter light over the sink for Judy.

Pat That would work and this one as well. They have all the different base types and will sell empty bases too. So you can buy bases and what ever lights, solder them together and you have light. They have warm and cool lights and the current draw looks good. I have been hunting for led lights for the Teardrop I am building looking for something that draws little current and doesn't require me to carry a big battery.

Agree 100%. Thumbs Up The bulbs ar bright, although a bit on the pricey side. We only bought one and replaced the bulb over the galley, since that's the one we seem to leave on the most @ anchor. When I opened it the little metal tab on the bracket was broken. Called and he sent me one no charge.

I bought all of my led replacement bulbs from www.superbrightleds.com My only cabin light was an 1142 style and I found an 18 led replacement for it for about 18 bucks. Carefully look over the site, they have everything in any color. You can call for help as well.

1142-CW18-T Cool white

Thanks all for the replies. There is some great information here.

I am still looking around for a fixture I like. Failing that, I will go with one of the replacement options mentioned above.

Well I finally found an LED light for the cabin. It's from i2systems, but unfortunately it's on a four-month backorder. So, it looks like they'll go in just befor the next season starts.

Here is the spec sheet on the lights.

Interesting. On that spec sheet, it never mentions the light output in lumens. If you get one, let us know if its a bright light, or dim, or?

BTY, neither does the guy selling those 24 led lights on e-bay. Though I've asked. I have a feeling he just imports them.

If you ordered one, how: from where and how much?

Thanks, Boris

The lights I got from the eBay vendor,

24 LED version:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140462363285#ht_726wt_1167

and the 63 LED version also

were both from China in the original two-bulb packaging.

I thought both types worked about the same and were just about the same brightness as the standard lights we're replacing, but somewhat whiter.

We have two threads running on this topic at the same time. Unfortunate, but true...
