Was going over the boat last night before a trip this weekend and noticed my oil level was down so I topped it off. Imagine my dismay when I returned from the garage and saw oil running down the skeg! Ran back to the garage and grabbed a ratchet kit to remove the engine cowls. I found the oil tank was cracked on the backside about halfway down. Has anyone else seen this? I ran Yamahas for 24 years prior to 2004. Never had a single issue. I'm hoping this is an isolated incident. Mad

Yup...I've heard of it before here:

They(BRP) have been replacing them under warranty. The "weld" seems to come apart. The fix seems to be an updated oil tank.

We've done quite a few E-Tecs and haven't seen this issue, so my guess is it is not very common.

This motor is so easy on oil I was able to get out this weekend just the same (there were a couple of cups in the tank below the crack, I just kept a close eye on consumption). I found a new tank for almost $40.00 but with the new isolators, mounts, clamp and gasket sleeve plus shipping it comes out to around $80.00. Sure beats the $340.00 or so for a new assembly. Still, it makes me wonder if I shouldn't have stuck with Yamahas. I ran Yamaha 2 strokes for 20 years and had zero issues, between this motor and the 90 I had on the boat before this one, I've racked up some pretty good repair bills Mad
