|
|
I have a 1500# Fulton single wheel trailer jack. When my boat returned from the dealer I noticed the jack leaning & loose at the pivot point. When I attached it to my truck this weekend and took the strain off, some steel remnants of a spacer/bushing fell out of the pivot point. Now the jack pivot joint is so loose it leans even more, to the point that it is non-functioning & dangerous.
I removed everything yesterday and took it apart; there was a spacer/bushing inside the joint between the two plates that pivot. But there definately is a missing/broken bushing (the remnants) or the bushing broke in half and I only have one half left. I called the local Fulton dealer about the part and they, in turn, called the Fulton factory/supplier. Long & short: Fulton doesn't sell JUST the spacer as a part. I'd have to purchase a new, complete jack.
If anyone is willing, could you take apart a similiar jack and photo or decribe the bushing? I have the remnants but I'm unsure if it's a one-piece bushing or two seperate pieces. I'm hoping I can find a bushing or create one out of washers etc so I don't have to spend $108 on a new one. Mahalo. _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."

I would recommend shopping at the West Marine store in Honolulu, phone # 808-845-9900. The Fulton 1500 is priced in the 2010 catalog on page 722 for $79.99. Buying a new one is easier than trying to fix an old one. Also you might try the Trailer SuperParts Store a division of Eastern Marine in Newark Delaware. They will ship. Check them out on the internet.
My trailer jack froze up with rust and I spent several hours trying to fix it. I used a torch to apply heat and a big hammer, no luck. I wound up buying a new jack from TSS in DE. When this one fails I am just going to order and buy a new one. Trying to fix an old rusted broken trailer jack is not worth the effort, in my opinion. _________________ Marlene and Dave Mason

Mark,
I just installed a new Fulton 1200 on the EZ Loader trailer for Barquinho. Easy install and I got a good price at West Marine. Plus, if you find a better price at a nationally recognzied online dealer. WM will match the price. Sometimes, you just need to do a little convincing and they usually come through.
The new one works much better than the old rusted one and for the money, it's so much easier to just install a new one than buy parts and rebuild the old one. IMHO of course.

Mark,
I'd check with the factory on warranty coverage. They replaced mine when it froze up after 2 years. Some products have a lifetime warranty. _________________ Roger

While I love the idea of shopping at the Honolulu WM store (espcially with it being a "Wa. State version of June" warm 59F at the moment )I'd imagine the "freight" there and back would make the end price a tad high.
I'm gonna take advantage of Tom's offer, see just WTH is missing or broken and go from there. May just have to break down and buy a new one although the cheap side of me won't be happy.

I have a brand new single wheel jack you can have. I guess brand new is not correct its 4 years old but never been used. Its a Fulton 1000lb fold away. Took it off the trailer the day I brought it home and replaced it with a jack that has a foot pad instead of a wheel. You are welcome to it.

Going to the catalog link that B2 provided; page 57/60 right side of the page is a picture showing/labeling the bushing. Unfortunately it is shouldered, not something stocked at the local hardware store but maybe doable with washers and JB Weld or better yet a friend with a metal lathe.

It is a stepped bushing. I went to Tom's yesterday; we took apart the one on his 22 and I used my digital caliper to get dimensions.. I then went to three different places looking for a suitable replacement. No luck. But I did get it "temporarily" working with two spacers I had in my parts bin of odds & ends. Going down south tomorrow to meet Chuck and get the 1K# one he offered me. It's maybe a $2 part so it's kinda frustrating that Fulton doesn't sell them as replacments. |
