Hi
I have a cd-25 with 13 inch wiper blades and I can not get my port blade to lay flat against the windshield. The middle is bowed enough that it keeps the ends 1/4 off an inch of the glass. I thought about "bending" it with my framing hammer but thought I would send this email instead... Ten years ago I would have used the hammer...Age has its benefits ( I guess)
thanks

Buy a new blade Bill, but keep the hammer handy!
Matter of fact, if you find some, buy two and a spare!

I have a wiper question also. I have a CD22 (2002) with an 11.5 inch wiper. The ones on the boat are dry rotted so I picked up the last one the had at west marine. The attachment (clip) on the blade I bought will not attach to the boat because they are a different type. I tried just removing the rubber blade from the holder and that dosen't work either. Now I have no wipers and cant find any new ones with the right clip to attach to the boat. I assume there is some kind of wiper that is made for the wiper arm on the C-Dory. I am also ready with the hammer...I will sink this boat and buy a new one if I am not even able to change a wiper blade on it.
So, can anyone tell me where I can find a wiper that will attach to my boat? ( already spent $100 on two wipers and a new arm that dosent fit either...all broken and non returnable) |

Narcdawg...been there done that. Go to an automotive supply and buy "Break to Fit" wiper refills. One will do both. |

The wipers on my CD are not sufficient to keep the windshield clean in rough seas.
Where do you buy the pantograph (sp?) type wipers to replace mine.??? I have AFI motors.
The arms are so close to the underside of the cabin top that it is almost impossible to get the arms off of the knurled knob.
Any ideas?????

Jack-
Here's to a WM site for the wiper blades: Click on the photo. (Other sources have them, too!)
Note the following paragraph:
"Pantographic arms allow the wiper blade to remain in a vertical orientation, sweeping a more useful pattern on the windshield. Corrosion resistant construction holds up to salt water, and the motor shaft mount has a set screw for secure clamping. Includes an "articulated bend back" feature for easy window cleaning.
Requires a heavy-duty motor with a 5/8" shaft
Fits the AFI 2000 and MRV motors
The Premier model, AFI's most rugged design, has the strength to drive larger blades."

We have an 06 cc-23 the AFI wiper motors will not work but if we try to move the arms we can get it to move but will keep blowing fuses if not helped along
So do we take the wiper arm off and can you rebuild these motors or do you just buy new ?? We have just used rain-x and it seems to work better then the wipers I thought of going back to manuel wipers like the cd-22 cruiser. fed up with non working wipers _________________ retired 8/08 from UAL, still working pt tm

I had a chance to use my wiper blades Saturday when i did a 16 mile run in the pouring rain. Mine blades are the type that are manually operated...electric ones would of been alot easier ....but it was still alot of fun. Tug |

We had a stripped gear in the one AFI wiper motor. No one has just the gear, which would be easy to replace. Had to buy the whole motor assembly. If the motor blows fuses, there could be several causes: Work is too hard - wiper shaft corroded - too much resistance, motor draws exess current. Fuse undersized ? - 5 A came with my new motor.
Wiper action is a combination of good rubber, enough contact pressure, and cleanliness of the glass. As stated above, Rainex is a good solution and can be used along with wipers to keep vision. (I have found Rainex to work best in heavy weather on some boats without wipers. Also found that sometimes wipers did not help at all, but Rainex worked.) Blade curve not touching W/S is due to lack of arm pressure on blade. (Some blades are curved.) Check for binding in arm due to corrosion, rusted spring. Can replace arm, can also install straight, rather than curved, blades. I got mine from Wolf Marine in MI. Best price, helpful staff.

How can one tell what model AFI wiper motor I have??? Don't want to gunny-sack the motor with a new pantograph set-up through stupidity. |

Looked at mine last night to see about the "park" circuit and I have the same question. I can see one bolt that goes through the bulkhead and the motor housing and one that just goes through the bulkhead. I think I'll try comparing pictures on the web with it. Since the boat is a 2006 though, the models may have changed. I think the main factor is the diameter of the shaft.

Jack, if you look at the WM website, the shaft diameter on both the 1.5 and 2.5 model AFI motors is 5/8". I think any of those arms that will fit those shafts will be fine.
