If this has been covered before I didn't find it.
I'd love it if all photos identified the poster. I've seen many pics that I would like to communicate with the poster about but don't know who to contact. Is there any automated way to contact the poster with the photos?

Give me an example. Every photo I've ever seen here, I knew who posted it. _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

If you are looking at an album, there will be a name of the poster/boat in the upper right corner. Run a search on that name, find posts submitted by the person, click on their profile at the bottom of the post and that will enable you to send either a PM or email.
Hope this helps,
Nick

I think Tom may be referring to the album photos. The album title (boat name) isn't tied back the the username. The username is associated with its album because we tie the two together with the profile link when we create the album. It can be kind of a pain to figure out who owns a pic sometimes if the album/boat name is different than the username. Especially if the photo is in the Cruises and Events album or the technical albums - then you don't even have the boat name for a clue.
The simplest way to find an owner would be to embed the picture in a message asking about it. Not only would that get the two folks together, it might stir up some dialog and call the photo of interest to the attention of others with similar interests.
There are nearly 600 user-owned albums on here, so the chances of getting me or Bill to list the username in the title for each of them is pretty slim unless the head nerd has some trick up his sleeve!
Sorry I don't have a simpler solution. _________________ TyBoo Mike

OK - I guess I see the problem. If you just go to an album, all you see is the album's name (which is usually the boat's name) and not the owner/poster's name. I guess since I have a mental table that maps the two together, I never really noticed this as a problem. However, you can find the user name of the poster/album owner by going to the "Our C-Dorys" link at the top of the page. Scroll until you find the boat name and the user name is in the table. I some cases, the same boat name applies to more than one user so you might have to click on a couple of albums from the "Our C-Dorys" link but it's usually pretty easy to find the boat owner's user name. |

If searching the boat name as Nick suggested doesn't work, you can go to the Our C-Dorys list (link at top of every page), sort the list by Vessel Name, and then see if the boat name is listed.
I opened the Our C-Dorys Album and clicked to open an album without looking. The album that came up was Adventure. Entering that into search gave me way too many hits, but by sorting the Our C-Dorys list I was able to find it on the first page and find the owner's username.
Now then, if the owner hasn't included the necessary info in his profile to get onto the Our C-Dorys list, which is right now 1612 entries long, and he cannot be found by searching on the boat name, about the only way left is to ask. |

Mike,
I was referring to photos in the technical albums where there is no boat name to use to ask the owner a question. I was hoping that a simple setting in the forum software might capture the poster's handle; not for the moderators to hand-label each one; unless you really, really needed something to do...
I'll take your advice and post the pic in a topic with my question.
Thanks for the info.

Tom,
I'm not completely sure but if you post a comment on the picture the album will go to recent photo activity on the home page. Then maybe the picture poster will respond to your comment. Or just start a new thread asking about the photo album with your questions.
