'Tis a sad day in the Da Nag household...we just put down our oldest Weimaraner, Chim Chim. She was fondly referred to as the "Grumpy Old Bitch", and was the Queen of the canine portion of our household.
I apologize for abusing my nerd privileges, but my pal will be gracing the front page for a day or so. She'll be missed greatly...she had an incredible run of 14 years, from which we have many, many fond memories.
So hug your best friend today, give them a skirch behind the ear, and take an extra minute to appreciate the moment.
Bill
On edit...
Front page is back to boats, but here are two of my favorite pics of the old gal. One from her final months, and one from her hunting youth...this dog had a nose!

Bill, Dana, Koko & Lulu,
Real sorry to hear about your loss. Putting my hunting dog down after 15 years of loyal companionship was one of the hardest things I had to do. They truly are members of the family.
Chim Chim had a great life, she was with you special guys!!!

Very sad -- I've just come in from walking Z who has been with me since I brought her home in a shoebox that she couldn't climb out of. She's 14 now, and our walks have gone from 2 miles a day, to barely 200 feet, I'm facing the same decision.
Dogs don't judge,
they have no ulterior motives,
they don't hate,
they hold no grudges,
have no spite,
love the infirm, the sick, the mentaly challenged,
all with equality, and will lay down their life to protect us.
Some are known to understand a 200 word vocabulary in our language -- yet we speak nor really understand a word of theirs.
All they give is love, and demand nothing in return.
And we're supposed to be the superior species . . .

Bill & Dana,
Sad to hear about your loss as I know how very difficult it is. We encountered a similar circumstance not too long back and it was very hard to deal with.
In reflecting on the many years, memories of great times, and the special bond and companionship, it has to bring good thoughts and a smile to your face, as it has to Betty and me. _________________ Mark on Mighty Bite |

Dogs hold a special place in life. Somewhere between children and devoted friend. As lifelong dog folk, like you we've faced the same loss before and are not looking forward to the next few years, since our friend is 11 now. You will always remember the little traits that made her special, and that truly honors her memory. Our sympathy goes out to you.

I had to do the same thing several years back to a Basset we had for almost 13 years . Elsie was the dumbest dog alive, but was a swell pal and companion that never changed from the day I brought her home as a pup. I have pics of her tripping over her ears with feet 3 times too big for her body. I feel your remorse... but just remember it was a sweet time while you had her. Bill & Dana,
Loss of your faithful pal Chim Chim comes less than two weeks after we were fortunate enough to rescue our Wendy from the pound. And yet, the love we have come to realize for our little orphan dog in just a short time helps us appreciate the enormous depth of loss and pain you must feel after your 14 years together. We share your pain and offer sincere condolences. Be sure that our Wendy can count on extra hugs, skirches behind the ear, and great appreciation … all in loving memory of your beloved "Grumpy Old Bitch". Find comfort in knowing that Chim Chim is in Doggy Heaven. _________________ Bill & Evelyn Macdonald

Bill, though I have not yet had the opportunity to meet you and your family my heart goes out to you. As I read through the posts, the tears started to flow. I think that it is partially for your loss and partially for the memories of the dogs that we have had over the years. A lot of great words have been written in the posts about what dogs mean to the people who are fortunate enough to have them in their lives.
As far as indulging in putting Chim Chim's picture up, with the amount of time, effort and expense that you put in order to allow us to talk about, improve, dream about, and otherwise meet people with common interests and problems with these unusual and quirky boats, I hope that no one who checks in on this site on a regular basis would take exception to that. _________________ Sam on C's The Day or maybe Marinauty (Someday)

Hi Bill,
I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I find a picture of the loved pet is perfectly appropriate and gives all of us pet owners a moment to dwell on our own companions and how limited their time is with us.
Sincerely, Randy Sheehy. |

"A dog's greeting is a joy to behold. They jump into the air in such a jubilee of delight, it's as if your return to hearth and home were the most noteworthy event of the century when all you've done, say, is walk to the mailbox and back. Return after an hour or more and you'll get backflips, trumpets, and a procession of drum-beating pageantry befitting a king or queen."
"An old dog has a beauty and dignity all her own, with her graying muzzle and soft, knowing eye. Her silliness gives way to serenity; more time is now spent in sleep than in play. In a perfect world, we would not have to say goodbye to our pets. No one should have to walk in the door to the deafening silence, or a chair whose cushions are forever imprinted with the shape of the slumbering dog." But the world isn't perfect. And so the end comes. And it is hard. It is hard because they have meant so very much to us. They have touched out hearts and changed our lives, and they ask only for an occasional scratch behind the ear. Love without limits, total acceptance.
Thanks for sharing the picture of your faithful pal Chim Chim. My heart goes out to you both. Robbi _________________ 2023 C-Dory 23 Venture Sport

Bill and Dana,
Sorry to "hear" about Chim Chim. Our thoughts are with you! The joy of having Chim Chim "grace" our opening page is that being a part of your family, she is a part "our C-Dory family! _________________ Dave S.

Ahh, I'm really sorry you had to do what you had to do. Sometimes it's the best of the many choices, sometimes it's the only choice.
Hug your pals |

"Close your eyes my longtime friend and let your journey end. We'll walk together someday I'm sure as winter turns to spring. The gentle breeze shall call your name along the waters' edge. For what we shared and what you meant will never leave my heart. You'll always be here next to me, companion and good friend." I'm sorry for your loss, Pete _________________ Pete
