Hi Brats,
As you know, there has been a renewed interest here in PlasTeak, the teak-looking flooring material that we installed in Valkyrie two years ago and like so much.
At the behest of a few Brats, I went to the PlasTeak office and talked to Bill Gribble, the owner, about picking up some remnants that could be used on the cabin sole, because they didn't need the standard six- foot-wide piece. Bill told me that if they have the demand, they will sell the material is 36 inch rolls instead of the standard 72 inch wide format. It takes a number of orders for this to take place. The price is $22.50 per linear foot. Also, I'm sure that shipping a 36 inch wide roll has got to be much cheaper than the six foot wide stuff. I noticed that a few Brats were looking for someone with whom to share an order and this will give individuals a way to order on their own. The piece in Valkyrie measures 27x66 inches.
If you have any questions give Bill a call at 1-800-320-1841. He's a good guy, easy to work with, and open to ideas. In fact, he had never been to the SBS and I encouraged him to work it to show the line in a new area. He did so this year and indicated that it worked to his advantage.
Hope this helps those interested in PlasTeak. Once again, I don't have an interest in the company; I just like their product.
Nick

noticed in one of your pictures that you have a really neat center windshield mosquito net cover. looks like it snaps on. here along the south outerbanks of NC, one thing that always helps is a bug reducer. wonder where you got it? Hi Marine,
I got a peek at Nick's boat when it was at Mobile East and admired his skitter screen too.
Called the folks who made the camper back for Sea Baby and said they made a similar screen a "while back". Anyway Bobby at A&J Canvas in Vanceboro said he could make one if I take a tracing of the center window to him. Going to do that next week.
Oh yes, Bobby gave me a ballpark figure of $25.00-$30.00.

When you first posted, I called and got samples of plasteak from the company and decided against it. Then, a few weeks ago, in a friend's house, I noticed his beautiful "wood" floors that he had put in his kitchen. They were a very heavy vinyl floating floor. I compared a remnant of his flooring, which was purchased at Home Depot for a fraction of the cost of Plasteak, with the sample I had, and it was very similar. Not quite as thick but the same concept for conecting the pieces.
The product he had purchased at Home Depot is for wet areas of a house or patios. With the cost being very reasonable ($50 for a box that will more than suffice for my 16Cruiser) I will try. Heck at that price, I can redo each year. Just thought I would share. I will post pics if I decide to go for it. _________________ Tivo Romero, CWO2, USCG (Ret)

Tivo, when you pick up the stuff from Home Depot, give me a post with the actual name/number of the stuff. I may try some in the 25 if I can find it here. _________________ David and Kate

Hummm... Let's see... if 80% of the C-Brats have a CD 22, CD25, CC 23, CC26, TC 255... and just 3% of those wanted a runner that would be about 160 orders. Just thinking... this guy may want to address looking at some custom cut pieces... or not. _________________ Patrick Byrd "Byrdman"

We just did a Tomcat with THIS material . It looks good and goes down with epoxy and some surface prep . It is sold by the foot in 6' width.

The fake teak floor is good looking, no doubt about it, but IMHO does not go with the rest of the utilitarian nature of the C-Dory interior. But hey, that is what C-Dorys are all about -- customizing to suit your own needs and wants.

What's the final 2016 consensus on PlasTeak?? Very interested in a long lasting, faux wood flooring option. |
