We are starting to look for a C-D 25. What should we expect to pay for used 2005, 2007, 2009? Don't know if this is polite to ask!

Also, when looking for C-Dories, I ran saw a boat line named Clipper Craft, a dory looking boat that used to be built in the northwest. Anyone with expience with them,.....handling,....fuel use,.....etc?

Not a problem nor impolite to ask. Welcome to the C-Brats. If you spend a little time on this site you will find all kinds of information about the boats. Also on the home page lower right you will find boats for sale. If you go into Forums and scroll down you will find past boats that have sold in Market Place Reference. That should give you some guidelines on what they are selling for..

I have a 2005 25, full electronics, trailer, etc. Probably could sell it for $65,000. Might be a little high, but it's not for sale anyway.

Good luck. Boat show is coming up........

The 25's will start at about $50,000 on up. It depends on the condition, the equiptment, engines etc. There are occasional exceptions with a boat which has been abused or damaged.

Most of the Clippers are wood boats, and while being a nice looking dory, I believe that they have problems with rot. You might google that to see if there is anything on the web about that... I believe there may be some Clippers out of glass, but not positive on that...

Welcome to the C-Brats & good luck on your quest.

We bought our 2009 25 CD from a local dealer. We looked at a number of 22' & 25' boats for sale. By the time we added up the equipment we'd need to change or upgrade, it would cost as much or more than buying a new boat, motor & trailer. We paid over $100 fully equiped. Now we're pinching pennies to buy a few extra "accessories" for summer.

For the used 25' Cruisers we looked at, asking price was around $65k to $69k for 2002-2005 models.

Hm, I'm a little surprised at the prices quoted for a used C-25. Last year, I've noticed a couple of C-25's with trailers in the LA area going in the $40's.

I guess the C-25 isn't a popular SoCal boat, though we are happy with Journey On.

A five year old 25 Cruiser for $40 something would be a steal.

Maybe we should go into business buying them in LA for $40K and selling them here for $60K!

Truly, not giving it any thought - Daydream is not now nor likely at any forseeable time in the future to be for sale...

Well Pat, I'm just about 30 miles Northwest of L.A., and I wouldn't sell mine for $70K, even if it was for sale! I'm with you though, I don't see me selling Dora Jean any time in the foreseeable future, in fact, I may start investigating how much a cemetary plot would cost for it -- WITH ME IN IT...

Just pay whatever is asked - both the buyer and seller will be happy with the deal !! Course after I typed that - maybe the buyer will be happier than the seller of a C-Dory ?

Steve...Heck you just retired ! Now the fun begins... Although I must admit I have not used my boat for quite a while... Just got home from the cabin, and leaving for Louisiana on Sunday... then home for several months and off again for my two month camping trip across America...on the sidecar rig...(the one in North Carolina that does not even have a motorcycle attached yet).... gonna be an adventure !!

As soon as we get back from Louisiana in a few weeks....lets go fishing..

I alwaays snicker when I hear some ole fart say...the best day of a boat owners life is etc..etc...

We bought our C-Dory new...and paid more...but we wanted a new C-Dory...and we have totally enjoyed it... I still think it was one of the best purchases of our lives... much more than just a boat...

Whatever it costs.... you will be thrilled with it... It's a boat that comes with good friends...and good times..... priceless

Like Joel, we bought ours new; ordered it out the way we wanted it. We've bought both ways before, new and used. If one is looking for used and waiting for a good deal, you have to move fast and be willing to make a few more compromises on how the boat may be equipped. Timing is likewise important... time spent waiting for the right deal is time spent NOT enjoying the boat.

The search for the right boat is part of the adventure. To a point. I have zero regrets about buying new. We were able to time the delivery to roughly coincide with becoming gainfully unemployed and have been enjoying the boat since that time. During my "discovery stage", it took me MONTHS to even get to see one of these boats. I had two other boats at the time, so it wasn't really time wasted... but, you just never know.

I haven't seen any 25s less than about $55k, but I haven't really been looking. I think I've always been attracted to niche type boats, and (by luck) these tend to hold their value better than the real mass-produced types... when you sell it, you get more of your initial cost back. You may pay a bit more up front, but you get it back on that other supposedly happy day.

Good luck with your search.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Joel, not sure if that high-altitude cabin of yours might be robbing you of needed oxygen to the brain, but I DO LIKE your dreams -- nope, not set up to retire for another 7 years or so to max out my Soc Security (if there still is any). But hey, keep up the good thoughts, maybe it'll happen sooner... Thumbs Up

Love to join you on your trek back across the U.S., just not sure of the logistics to join up with you, given my bike's here in SoCal, my beginning point.
