I have a 2007 Suzuki 115 HP 4 stroke and have never change the Impeller and don't currently have any issues. I only have 35 hours on the motor; it is used in salt water, but has only been in the water for an elapsed 4 weeks in the last 3 years. The other times it sits on my trailer. I was kind of wondering whether anyone had change an Impeller on a Suzuki and whether I’m pushing it never having changed it?

Thanks Jim

It is a easy as falling off a rock...if you have ever changed one in anyother outboard before. But I would suggest you at least invest in a service manual so you are able to get the foot off the boat and back on if nothing else.

And as to the number of hours on your motor. It isn't just hours that count. Impellers don't age well. They become hard and brittle with age and being out of the water. They surcum to abraison form course and abrasive matter sucked thru the water pump as well. Changing your impeller at least every two years wheather it needs it or not will keep you from having to learn to walk on water someday.

I think it's a good idea to change the impellar if for no other reason to insure the bolts don't freeze/corrode in place reinstalling them with antiseize.

Jim-

There are those who will tell you to change the impeller every year, regardless, but a long as the motor's been freshwater rinsed and run only 35 hours, and you've got a strong tell-tale stream, I'd just sit tight, if the impeller, upon removal of the lower unit, looks good.

After all, it's Neoprene.

So what I'd do is take it apart and inspect it, mostly to remove, lubricate, and replace the bolts, which, otherwise, can become "frozen" from corrosion, then reassemble it.

Sorry about the lack of logical order in the above paragraph, but I'm watching the game at the same time!

This is specifically for the larger Suzuki's but it may help (and could possible be the same).

Thanks Matt. This gives me a good amount of info and with the manual I have should let me get the job done. Really does not seem that hard, but this is my first outboard and with no dealers around i want to make sure i don't mess it up.

Have a good day.

Jim
