Anyone use these things? A friend of ours has them on his bass boat trailer and he loves them. Just wondering how they hold up in saltwater. They make a stainless version, too. We're thinking of using our BassPro gift card and getting a pair.

Hey Ric!! Yes, I have some bass boat friends that use and like them a lot, but, ya know, most of them take em off before they put the transom area of the boat in the water. It just seems a bit easier.
, so, I am not sure how much...and/or if the stainless would be worth the extra cost... But then, you do have the salty air...and road splash from trailering about in these current weather conditions. _________________ Patrick Byrd "Byrdman"

Yeah, ya gotta remember to take the straps off, Patrick...is there a story there somewhere?
Wondering about the feedback on saltwater use because we're hoping to be transferred to the PNW in the spring. We were supposed to have heard by now if we're headed to Port Angeles, WA...like we've been trying to get for 10 years now...

I have a pair of SS on my trailer. So does a friend. Easy to use, very easy to synch down tight and release with one lever. Unfortunately only been on for about 6 months so I can't speak to durability. West Marine carries them, sometimes on sale, but very expensive anyway. I think mine were around $100 on sale. My store has a display that allows you to operate them. Only drawbacks I see are cost and pretty short (about 3')and at least where mine are mounted (under the boat on the trailer) requires hands and knees operation.
For the price you can buy a lot of normal ratchet straps (but some of them are really tough to release).

Had the SS ones on my last boat, I never did take them off and they were still working fine after 3 years of salt use when I sold the boat, loved them! |
