Hi folks Im new to c brats I think I posted this question in the wrong place last nite so sorry about that. love your site My question is every year i run the Inland passage from seattle to prince rupert, I do it now in a regal 2665 commodore 2002 soft top but Im trying to decide between a CDory 25 and wondering how it would be for that. Im out two to three weeks at a time.
How would it handle Johnstone straits and the queen charlotte sound .
Will it sleep two couples My regal is very smooth and has two queen beds what would i be giving up in ride and handling if anything.
my other option would be st slow down even more. i really like the sundowner tug 30 i would like your imput thanks Duff

Hi Duff, I see you found the right Forum. Pat Anderson and I took 2 25's together to Ketchikan about 3 years ago. I was gone a month on the round trip. The 25 handles that trip just fine. There are a couple of places where you need to be very weather wary. Around Cape Caution (named appropriately) at the south end of Queen Charlotte Strait you are in open water for about 4 hours. Then of course the Straite of Georgia. There is fuel all along the way. I think the most I ever took was 64 gallons in the 107 gallon tank. I carried 2 5 gal extras that I poured into the tank before we left Ketchikan. We did the trip up in about 7 days as I remember. Spent all but maybe 4 nights on the hook.

Pat will chime in on this also more than likely.

Thanks. yes, cape caution can be interesting .What kind of economy could a person expect from the 25 I,m thinking about 150 honda and a kicker instead of two 90 what are your thoughts last year we did about thousand mile on our may trip this year may go to prince Rupert so mileage is important to me.
Is the Cdory as sea worthy as the 2600 seasport and how does the heat system do in cold weather. Thanks for any input you any one would have

A cdory and a sea sport are very sea worthy but the rides are very different. the seasport is a deep v and will ride faster and smoother in the 2 to 3 foot chop. witht he c dory you have to go slower to get the same comfort. In big rollers the cdory has the advantage. it will stay on plane at a slower speed which will not launch off the top of a big roller the way a deep-v boat will. a deep v will have to go faster to stay on plane or it will wallow around bow up. deep v's have two speeds slow and fast. no mid range that a flat bottom boat has.
As far as fuel burn i think that a seasport with a i/o diesel will get the same milage as a c-dory out board with a 150 hp. but a sea sport with a gas motor or a out board will be worse. It's a heavier boat and not flat bottom.

Duff-

You may be able to save some gas with a CD-25 over the Regal 2665 Commodore 2002 soft top, but, realistically, the handling/ride will be OK with either boat, though different, as Tom mentions.

Your biggest difference will be the change in sleeping accommodations if you now have two queen beds. The CD-25 has just the forward double v-berth and a convertible dinette single berth, which , would be pretty much impossible for an adult couple, unless you added a widening adaptation of some sort, or slept one on the dinette and one in the "basement", or out in the "patio"!

With young kids, the floor or cockpit might not be a problem, but with adults? There have also been some bunk bed adaptations, but?

If you've already got a boat that does it comfortably.......

I personally wouldn't trade off the gas differential for the accommodation differential. (Just my 2¢!)

Good Stuff, the problem with the regal is The cock pit just has tent canopy and i need hardtop boat plus the express cruiser has no way to mount a kicker on the swim platform if i had break down im pulling it with my tender
so thats why i was thinking the 25 the other boat i like is a sundowner tug 30 put then its really slow going put lots of room any thoughts
