Leaving our expensive trailers sitting unattended (often for days or weeks) is one of the downsides of owning a trailerable boat. I always wonder if mine will be waiting for me when I return to the ramp. The spindly coupler locks that thread through the latch can be defeated with a hammer, a rock, or a swift kick with a boot. So I'm always looking for a better solution.

The Couple-mate Premium Dual Trailer Safety Lock secures your trailer when it is not in use. But wait, there's more, Dual Lock also secures your trailer to your tow ball like a clamp making it near impossible to steal your trailer off your car.
This lock clamps the entire trailer coupling making it impossible to remove the nut under the tow bar. (see detailed info and photo) Great for trailers, boats and even Jet Ski's that are left at the boat ramp. Approved by all Insurance Companies.
Use the safety chain to loop through the lock and use a padlock to lock up the entire assembly. It is possible to tow a trailer with a safety chain so the above procedure prevents thieves using this chain.
If you have a receiver on your car or 4WD please look at the hitch pinlocks in conjunction with this product. It is possible to remove pins rendering this type of lock ineffective.

It's amazing how many "better mouse traps" are out there. With that said, the weak link in the system is, as noted, the receiver hitch pin.
As I've said before: make it as hard as possible and hopefully, the POS thieves will go somewhere else. _________________ "We can go over there...behind the 'little one'....."

Hello Adeline,
That locking mechanism looks interesting. I suspect getting it shipped from Australia may be rather expensive, however...or, did you find a US-based distributor?
I use this (http://shop.carrythebigstick.com/) gizmo when my trailer is left unattended.
