C-25 Washdown Pump

Does anyone have a washdown pump installed on their C-Dory 25?

If so, where is the pump located? Where is the washdown faucet located? Any pics?

I'm tired of anchoring in mud and bringing "a lot" up with the chain and into the anchor locker. I'm going to hard wire the washdown pump I carry, so that maybe I'll use it (or Judy will.)

Hi Boris,

We have a factory-installed fresh water wash down pump. The pump is installed under the step by the door and the outlet for it is on the port exterior cabin wall (at the cockpit). You may not want to use a fresh water washdown for cleaning the anchor/rode since it would deplete your fresh water (the reason the factory usually did raw water washdowns). We use ours for rinsing off after getting out of the water. Our hose reaches to the swim step just fine, not sure if it would go to the bow (we're not at the boat right now or I'd check for you).

If our anchor is muddied up, Joan generally gives me the signal to run the windlass up and down a few times. If that doesn't get all the mud off, we have run slowly with the anchor just in the water. Just don't take off and forget it's down. Rolling Eyes

There have been a few times when a raw water wash down would be nice, but I don't want ANY thru-hull openings below the waterline.

Jim, is there any reason that one couldn't tee off the head water intake and use that for the pump?. It's right in the same place.

Does the outlet come out on the aft bulkhead of the cabin or from under the port lazerette?

Jim, bitchen. Thanks for mentioning the shutoff valve. Whilst we don't have a vaccu flush that I know of, I'll have to separate the two circuits, so air isn't pulled back.

Well now I have project 2894-a for the boat.

My raw-water wash down pump is installed near the hull side, behind the water heater, under the aft dinette seat, aft corner. If you install your pump as earlier discussed it will of course use whatever water your toilet uses - if you flush with raw water, that is what you will wash down with.

The raw water washdown pump on Frequent Sea (25) was "T" off the head intake. There was not shut off to the head, but should be. The pump was under the "closet" aft of the dinette, and the outlet and switch is on the port aft bulkhead--about the same type as on the Tom Cat 255.

I have a 25 with raw water washdown from the factory and it has a T off the head intake and has a valve under the step just inside the door. I don't think it was used much in the last couple of years and when I turn it on it blows it's fuse within and makes no noise. Do I have a seized pump? The pum is under the step and partially inside the aft port cabinet bottom. Is there an easy way to exercise the pump to get it unstuck or should I be shopping for a replacement? Any ideas?

Greg, your timing is great. I'm just trying to repair the fresh water and sewage pumps. Those pumps have permanent magnet DC motors, which will draw maximum current at start-up under a load. Since there's a low load until the pressure builds up, the fuse shouldn't blow, unless the motor is jammed or shorted.

This morning, I pulled a sewage pump/macerator apart to see if the impeller or the motor was stuck. I lost, the motor was stuck, and I'll have to get a new macerator.

You can check, by feeling the case to see if the pump starts up or the fuse just blows.

By the way, none of the pumps in Journey On have an internal fuse. What make of pump is it?

I will be on the boat all weekend and will take a look then. The fuse blows in seconds and there is no other noise or action from the pump so it sounds like its just stuck.

It is a Flowjet model 4305-144 pump with these specs:

12v
10amp
3.5gpm
40psi

It's blowing a 15 amp fuse but thats all its good for right now. Found a decent price on a close one here.

Well, Journey On cqme with a FloJet 4405, which pumps 3.3 gpm, at 45 psig. It has no need for an accumulator tank because it has an internal bypass to recirculate excess water inside pump. I don't have a clue as to what that means, but one can't use it with an accumulator.

Unless Sea Wolf has a different opinion, go for it.

Did you know that both Surflo and Flojet are owned by ITT (which used to mean International Telephone and Telegraph). I take it they changed their product line.

Just make sure you flush your tank and water lines, The filter in the pump I pulled apart was filled with strings of plastic. Can't figure out from where they came.
