I asked about on-line Marine courses about two years ago and am just now getting around to taking one. So again to get the latest opinions I am asking for recommendations for a course of study, on-line with home study materials. I am looking for a course which will present a general variety of seamanship topics including navigation.
Thanks to all. |

I have not looked at them closely but the US Power Squadrons offer online courses:
http://www.americasboatingcourse.com/
Here's the brief course description:
>>America's Boating Course is a complete home study program covering the basics of recreational boating. The course is designed for boaters using all types of watercraft. The course material includes four main chapters, which cover:
· Boat Education: General information about boats and personal watercraft, and their maintenance
· Boating Safety: How to make your boating safer and more comfortable
· Boating Law and Regulation: Laws and regulations that you must follow.
A fifth optional chapter provides an introduction to navigation, which covers:
· GPS waypoint navigation
· Classical dead reckoning principles
America's Boating Course includes:
· A full-color 244-page boating safety course manual, and
· A boating instruction CD, a digital charting CD, and
· An online boating course with PIN number, and
· Personal contact with United States Power Squadron members.

Were you satisfied with the course? Did you look at others before choosing this one?
I was impressed with the one Matt sent but I have not looked at the one you took yet. My guess is much of the content is the same? |

Yes I thought it was very well done and doing courses online does not bother me nor having a book. I just print off pages and access any page anytime online or save pages to PC
I also will receive a boat insurance discount
Lastly, this is only one I used and it was recommended by FL when I was registering my boat in FL |
