I'm in the middle of upgrading my Raymarine system to a C80, and am in need of charts. Just curious what other WA folks are using with their C80's.
In short...I can get far more coverage of areas I'd plan on going, by getting the Gold+ #13. This would probably cover 95% of my expected use. And, it's $80-100 cheaper than Platinum charts.
With the Platinum charts, it's a toss-up which of two I would get...both #12 and #13 appear to cover most of my trips, but both have missing areas I know I would need on occasion.
Since the C-Series can't use all the options on the Platinum charts like the E-Series can, I'm just curious whether folks have found the options that are available, worth the added cost - particularly when taking the smaller geographic area and higher price into consideration.
From Navionics:
The Raymarine C-Series with the internal software update is partially platinum compatible. The features that you will gain by choosing Platinum are the panoramic photos, the added points of interest and the coast pilot book. The 2 features that you will not have are the 3D view and the satellite photo overlay view. _________________

Bill, we use the Gold BC #13 and have had no issues. The Platinum coverage is much smaller and we would end up changing chips all the time in this boating area. Personally I see no benefit to going platinum. _________________ Patti and Barry

Thanks for the confirmation...that's the one I decided on as well. Just seems to make more sense for my uses, especially given the C-Series inability to fully utilize the Platinum chips.
Covering the Columbia River through the Inside Passage, would take care of all the cruising I have planned for the next several years. The Gold+ XL9 covers all of this, for well under $200.
To cover the same area, it takes three Platinum chips...at over $800. |
