Two young ladies for the PNW are doing the Great Loop in a 16 Duroboat (Their Dad's Company) the fast way...70 days is the goal. They may miss a lot of the sights but they are have a great time on their summer break. You can follow them on their summer adventure by clicking here: http://www.boatinglife.com/article/Travel/Blog-In-Their-Dreams.
You can read more here: http://www.issaquahpress.com/2009/05/26/local-women-embark-on-big-voyage-on-a-small-boat/
And yes Jim (Wild Blue) I have extended an invatation to the girls for lodging, hot showers, and food. Would you expect any less from a Naples C-Brat.
Keep an eye out for them while you and Joan are doing your mini loop. _________________ Mike Taylor

This is an interesting read that I hope you folks considering the Great Loop trip don't miss. |

I am privleged to own a Duroboat (actually my second--the first I pruchased new --blemish on the paint, which I could not find. I fixed the first one up with a white dacron padded rubrail, sunbrella cushions on the seats and custom floor boards. I used it as a tender on my 42 foot Symbol trawler). When I sold the trawler, the Duroboat didn't go with it---OK the buyer said "no deal" unless the Duroboat came along!
I had seen another 12 foot Duroboat for sale on the bulletin board at West Marine the year before, and had saved the phone number. It turned out it was not sold, and instead of $900, it was now $300, including a trolling motor and depth sounder!
I use it for the bayou with a 48 lb thrust trolling motor, but tow it behind the Tom Cat (it is squirrley towing at more than 16 knots, at least without a skeg to help the boat track straight). I usually run the boat with a 3.5 hp engine, but it will take up to 15 hp.
The Duroboat has no rivets in the hull, and only a dozen SS screws to hold the thwarts in place. The hull sides and bottom are slid into extrusion and kept in place with urethane adhesives. The boat is extremely seaworthy for a 12 foot boat--and I am sure that the 16 footer is that much better.
Great for these gals to do the loop in a Duro Boat! Great adventure. _________________ Bob Austin

I have a couple new 12 footers and a 16 here at Wefings. They are still on the big trailer along with a new R 25 and they look very good! They have very shapely hulls for aluminum boats .
