was looking for an old davidson chugger for the west coast of Van. Isl. but they are slow!!Been looking @ c-dorys but boy are they ever pricy $$ With a very low cnd. $ guess it will be a 16 ft. from the Seattle area. Are the 16 fters as sea worthy as the 22fters??Sure like the fuel economy ,and is there enough room to run 2 downriggers for 3 people on board? Hoping to do a little chartering. Can wait to get a c-dory now that I know thats what I want. Thanks ya all

a 16 is sea worthy for a 16 but I don't think it would be very comfy with three on board trying to fish. I don't really like to fish more then two in my 22. I have done three but i don't like it. If you are mostly going to fish I would look for a 22 angler or a 19 fter. There was even a few 22 cruisers with a open back, longer cab then the 22 angler but with a open back so easy for three guys to rush the rods when they pop. Good luck shopping.

Hello Bob,
I think your on the right track with a C-Dory but you would find that 16 would be to small. I chartered out of Schooner Cove, Nanaimo, Lantzville and the west coast. A 22 angler would fit the bill. I ran a 22 Bayliner trophy one of the good ones semi displacement hull 1980 vintage. I see that you are just up the beach a little ways, give us a shout some time we can take Cute-C out for a run and dust off the winter cob webs.

Later Dave

I mostly agree with Tom but think that 3 is the ideal number of people to fish in a 22 - 1 to reel, 1 to net and 1 at the helm to position the boat as needed. 3 on a 16 is too many for sure. The angler models provide more cockpit space and are more ideal for fishing, the cruiser models are fine for fishing but have more cabin space. It's easier to sell a cruiser to the wife.

I troll for trout and salmon on the Great Lakes in my 16 Angler. 2 people is fine. 3 is a bit crowded, but we do it a couple times each year(it is nice to have someone drive while netting) and it's doable but with a full cooler of fish, 3 guys, 2 motors and gear, the boat is probably close to being overloaded. A 19 or 22 is probably a better bet, and less crowded to boot.

My former 16' Cruiser and current 22' Cruiser were/have been a MUCH better investment than the stock market! These vessels hold their monetary value better than other vessels on the market. Additionally, my vacations have been less expensive than the former vacations that we used to take as we now spend vacation time eating, sleeping, and cruising on our C-Dory.
Although, I'm not a fisherman, I agree with what others say about the 16' being too small for your expressed purposes.

Hi Bob,
Just over the hump to Port Alberni you will find the Port Boat House. Nice people, good service, and they know their stuff, also the only C-Dory dealer on the island.
Later Dave.

I have trolled for kings with 5 aboard but it has to all go just right or it can be a big "cluster f----" in short order.
4 is ok but 3 is just right.
Actually it is fun to fish alone as it introduces another factor into boating the fish. It must be played completely to exhaustion in order to net it alone. In order to do that it must be played with great skill and patience.

I can not imaging fishing 3 on a 16' C-Dory.

Good luck in your choice but minimum 19' is my suggestion.

Only one more month and it will be C-Dory time again in Alaska. I can hardly wait. Season 26 for the HIGH TIDE.

Jack
