I listened to him for decades. His news and comments were always enlightening and entertaining. I will miss hearing his Salutation and "Good Day" |

I too have listened to him for years. My kids thought we were related to him and called him "Tall Harvey". The Rest of The Story was our "on the way home from school" story. We all learned a lot from "America's News Boy". All of a sudden my radio doesn't seem to be very needed anymore.

And now we know the rest of the story. Paul Harvey was a bright spot on the radio... may have been the first "talk radio" that I enjoyed in my youth. He will be missed. |

He was a class act and the king of the pregnant pause.
I miss him already. |

I wanted to be the last post on this page- just so I could type
"And now...... Page two."
Class act. I understand he has only been working part time the last year or so after a bout with pnemonia, and the loss of his wife. But even the guest commentators were usually interesting and fun in their own way.
A distinctive voice has been silenced. _________________ Matt Gurnsey

I'll never forget the first time I heard him. It was half-a-lifetime ago(1984) and my dad, my oldest brother, and I had flown into Fairbanks. We were driving a rental car from the airport to our motel. It was an August evening and Paul Harvey came over the radio. I'd never heard of him and was blown away. "Who is that ?", I asked my dad. Oh, that's Paul Harvey, he said, he's been around forever(he was 65 at that time). I couldn't believe I'd lived 25 years and only just heard him for the first time. Since that moment I always sought him out on the radio. He is(was) the personification of "pause for effect". A few days later my brother Mike mentioned that the Kenai River was in season so we hopped over to Soldotna and chartered with an outfit called "Kings". That morning a 72#er was landed for a Saudi prince. We got the next 4 hour shift and my brother Mike landed a 57#er on a spin-n-glo w/eggs. I got a 16# Chinook. My dad got a 24#er.
Dad's been gone since '91 but whenever I think of Paul Harvey, or Kenai, or Fairbanks, I'm taken back to that August. _________________ Pete

Wow, I hadn't heard. I am truly crushed. Not since the passing of Jacques Coustou have I been as moved by the passing of a celebrity. His news commentaries were truly a welcome addition to any broadcast and always helped put things into perspective. I will miss his "Good Day" at the end of each vignet. He embodied what the CNNs and FOX News of today, with their nameless "news girls" that all look the same will never get. He was credibility, honesty and integrity in news reporting personafied. We trusted him to tell the truth, yet we knew when he was giving us his opinion. He strove to eductate and make us think, not just put on a show. God speed, and may he enjoy fair winds and following seas in the great beyond. _________________ Tivo Romero, CWO2, USCG (Ret)
