During the last huricane that hit the Gulf Coast and came up the Applachian Mountains I was in Utah working the better part of the summer. All the rain went up into Pennsylvania and New York. I got a call at 8 AM on a Sunday morning from my wife who informed me the marina called and said the docks were breaking up. I have a 27' slipped there. This was at the mouth of the Susquanna River at the head of the Chesapeake Bay. Talk about a sinking feeling (no pun intended). The Conowingo Dam, abour 4 miles up river, had 38 gates open. The water was ripping. I saw it on the good old Weather Channel in Salt Lake. The Coast Guard would let boat owners only go out on the floaters to try to save their boats.
I was so relieved when a couple Captain friends of mine at the marina came to my wife's aid. Talk about a useless feeling! 2500 miles away and could not do a thing except wait .... Bummer. _________________ As Bartles and James said, "Thank you for your fine support!" |

Shrimping off of Blake Rock in April.
Two days in August at Neah Bay - 90lbs. of salmon fillets, my first good size king (only about 20lbs. but big for me).
Running out of gas in the tow vehicle on the way back from Neah Bay (first time I've run out of gas in my life). It's a long way between the last gas station near Seikiu and the one just east of Lake Crescent! Won't make that mistake again. Disconnected the gas line from the engine to pump gas into a make shift container, made a funnel from an empty water bottle and transferred enough gas from the boat to the tow vehicle to get to the station (which was only 2 miles from where I ran out ). Felt very stupid. Wife was nice - she worked VERY hard to hide the "I told you to stop earlier" smirk.
Should point out that the thumbs down part was actually not on the boat - I've never had a "bad" day on the boat. Always better than work.... _________________ Roger on Meant to be |

January Attending our first CBC & meeting many of the C-Brats.
May Cruising to the Lopez C-Brat event & having our first overnighter on our C-Dory. Special thanks to Rev Dave for christening the R-Matey on such short notice and thanks to Jim & Laurie for the christening document. Everyone was just great welcoming the ARRR-Matey.
July We attended the Blakely event. What a blast. The weather was fantastic along with the crab, the cheesecake and just lots of food and wonderful people.
August : First time at Langley with the C-Brats & meeting Ben the harbormaster. Joe couldn't get enough of those mussels, not to mention Cynthia's chili
September Taking R-Matey down the I-5 to the C-Dory factory in Kent. Arriving safely .
September Call from C-Dory that R-Matey is ready to be picked up. Great service I-5 is definitely in need of some resurfacing Arriving safely .
October We were able to see everyone at Sequim but we weren't
able to take the R-Matey . Took some great pictures but for some reason the ones taken with the digital were to faint to share . Good thing I had the regular 35mm with me for backup
November Our very first cruise with the C-Brats. What an awesome day . Many thanks to Rev Dave . On this trip Joe saw the Kakua which he'd worked on during the 1970s down in Coos Bay. Brought back a lot of memories.
December 18 We wanted so much to do the locks with everyone
It turned out to be such a beautiful day . Well, perhaps next year
Most grateful that we returned safely from all of our journeys that we went on this year . Plus I am now armed with a
new Sony digital
Looking forward to the SBS & CBC next month.

Best C-Dory moments, the Blakely whale watching trip...Jarrel Cove trip... days salmon fishing on a flat ocean
Worst C-Dory moments, HelenO Larry schooled the kid and I on steelhead fishing, we are now hooked on bank angling for steelhead. The poor boat may never see much use during steely season now. _________________ Ken

The Potomac river gang at my place in June. Tom and Kathy on Otter, Bruce and Jane on Snowden and the others who couldn't make it but we were ready for them and would have had a better time had they been there!!
The radar and autopilot installation, more gadgets to play with, my bride is still waiting for me to prove that I need them, hope I never have to "prove" we need the radar, the autopilot will speak for itself the first time we both sit in the cockpit with our cocktails on a long leg, keeping an eye on traffic of course
The hauling of Captain's Choice the week before my knee replacement in September, knew I couldn't do it later than that. Knee is doing better though, will be ready for the spring!!
The progress on the Garage/Apartment at Cod Creek on the river, will be ready for a better Potomac/Chesapeake Bay Get Together in 2005! Will post pix soon in the Capt's Choice album.
Happy New Year to all the C-Brat's and all our good friends. Still hold hopes to get to the SBS but need to get closer to be sure! _________________ CHARLIE and PENNY CBRAT #100

Hooking up with Jon and Fred off Anderson and McNeil islands March 25th, then Bill and his brand new Da Nag's arrival at Penrose Park, where four boats spent two nights before Saturday's cruise to Jarrell Cove.
Opening Day weekend at Lopez Island April 30-May 2. When I arrived fully five Brats were there to take my bow line. Now, that's service. Fireman Dave helped assemble my new camper back; 20 boats congregated; the Saturday night potluck after a cruise to and walk around Jones Island.
The June 24-27 cruise to the Gulf Islands with our brightest stars: Halcyon's Bill and El; also starring son Brad, and his delightful kids Ami and Bryce. Too, Pat and Patti on Daydream, David and Kate on Anna Leigh, and Fred piloting Anita Marie. Perhaps most memorable about that Canadian trip was the stay at Wallace Island.
The cruise from Lake Washington with Da Nerd to the C-Brat clamfest August 27-29.
Last, and what a feast: Sequim! The food, company, enthusiasm, and chart-busting big fun cruising to Victoria. Another banner year. |

The most incredible Halibut season EVER. 3 fish over 100# and every day a guest or myself got into the fish of a lifetime. I think the record is safe for years to come. All I can say is WOW!
First Tuna on the Sea Lion!
My son's first Tuna on Sea Lion, 55 miles off shore at the tender age of 11. I don't think he realizes just how lucky he is yet.
Getting pictures of a pod of Blue Whales. A fluke shot of a tail that was wider than my 22' Angler is long. Another shot with about 65' out of the water, which was only about 1/3 of the total mammal... very humbling 50 miles out...
Meeting Bill and El and all the rest of the brats that made the Warrenton dock party in their honor. Great food, great company, great time.
Missing Cathlamet due to trailer problems.
getting to eat all the Tuna salad
Missing the Opener at Lopez
Getting the new tow rig for Sea Lion
having to make the payments on the tow rig.
This could go on and on so I'll cut her off here....
What a great year. I sure am looking forward to this next season. In fact I am going to go for a cruise and maybe fish tomorrow. _________________
