I write my responses for anyone who is reading this thread, now or in the future, to serve as an informational resource.

It's my training as a teacher, I guess! Always lecturing to the class!....

I'm hoping that these discussions go beyond the few writers involved and stay put in the archives for others to research and learn from down the road, though we do seem to do a lot of repeating topics here and there!

Sorry if there was any confusion or misinterpretation, I know you know exactly what you're thinking and doing, at least as much as any of the rest of us! Ha! Laughing

Hey Joe no offense taken. My post was intended more as what not to do. Kinda don't try this at home. I was fortunate I didn't smoke my alternator but I just had to try it.

We did not have a refigerator in the C D 22, and didn't miss it, even though our use was usually 2 to 3 weeks at a time. We do have a chest type freezer/refer on the Tom Cat and the factory refigerator on the 25 (it came that way). We still use ice chests on both boats. The refigerators are not big enough for any length of time.

Generally the way that many of us use the boat, the extra batteries would be a good way to go--and is somewhat similar to what we have on the CD 25. We hit a marina every 2 to 3 days for the showers, water and to top off batteries by the 110 volt power. We carried the Honda generator, and never used it in the 2 months of cruising last summer. The engine kept up the batteries, and the extra battery power was enough for the 3 days on the hook when we needed it.

I doubt that the charging circuit will be damaged, especially in the PNW, because it is cool, even with large batteries. The issue is cooling. You do have to consider the extra weight of the extra batteries, and where they are placed--as well as perhaps re-distributing other items.

Welcome aboard, and enjoy your boat!

WE had a icebox on our cd-22 we never used it for it's intended purpose it was for storage for paper products etc. We would use a big cooler .Now we have a refer in our cape cruiser(venture 23) I love it we keep beer and some water in there the water freezes in the freezer compartment and usually keeps it cold enough overnight without running it .I love having the refer no water coming into your salads and other assorted groceries what a Great way to go boat camping and no ice to look for .
