Sounds high to me. How old is the engine? Hours? Condition overall of the boat/accessories?

I always maintain that on a boat this old you're just buying the hull, the rest is, well, stuff. Especially if it's a salt water boat.
The motor is how old?

Hey Tom
I think you need to think about what you will want to replace in it.
the Loran????? to a new GPS Chartplotter
the alchohol stove???? at least you will need some sort of heater
the trailer????? does it have brakes on it

Tom,
Sounds high to me as well. For comparison, you could add 10k more and have your choice of 2002 models. One in CA, one in IL.

I can't say for sure if it is a fair price or not. My boat, Snoopy-C is a 1991, with a 2001 Yamaha 100 4 stroke with about 150 hours, an 8 hp 2001 honda troller, radar, multiple gps, multiple fishfinder, electric downriggers, 2nd station with hydraulic steering in the cockpit, rocket launchers, heater, cockpit floor, and blackbox for downriggers. It is always garaged. I wouldn't sell it for $30,000.
I don't think you can honestly say it ain't worth it, unless you see it. Might be as new! My $0.02 worth.

$.02 from the east coast: That is a lot for a 15 year old boat,,,,but, agree with some of the above comments... You are buying the hull however it has been treated/lived. Take down serial numbers and who knows what type of history can be had on this and/or the C-Dog site. Something else to think about is that you are in WA.... a very populated area if you are looking for a 22', particuarly with new 22s', the new 19', the new 25' and the Cats. If the electronics are all that old... well, we are back to how has the hull been treated and what year/hours/maintenance has the motor & trailer had. My 1st C-Dory was from salt water area and the trailer was bought 2nd hand just to pull the boat down the road a piece for maintenance....not at all what I call a REAL trailer truly capable of taking off to where ever... Expressing this to the guy selling it as boat/motor & trailer... Then, when the weight hit the trailer, I was correct in my assessment of the trailer...the frame broke right on the ramp. Better there than on the interstate going home... We found a new galvanized EZ-Loader that had been left at a dealer from someone who was to leave their boat in dry dock... We got a great deal on the trailer, and spilt the cost 50/50, win - win for both of us. Yep, look at each piece and its age and as mentioned above... will it do for your use, or are you going to have to replace it anyway. Good luck in your search.

We took a long hard look at the boat today. As i said before it is a 1990 hull, found out the motor is a 2000 90 honda. also has a honda 4 stroke kicker. the downriggers are well used penns electrics. there is a older but nice ceder strip raised floor in the cock pit and a large cooler w/snap on cushin seat. the top is the standard model but, almost new. there are also new trim tabs on the back. all the electronics are old and dated and not worth anything to me as they will have to be replaced. little has been done to the inside of the cabin in the way of modifications . which is good and bad. good that i can do my own the way i want and bad that i have to do them. the interior is clean and well kept except for two rips in the seats, both on seams. wife said she can fix them. The cook top is the alcohol type not a wallas. but i have been really looking at the fireplace job that has been talked about here in the past. the front window does not open and there is only one elec window wiper. the other two are manual. the hull needs to be repainted too. the trailer is a two axel ez loader with rollers but it is a 87 from??? it has brakes and a ele wench. all in all it was a nice boat but not worth 30,000 compared to others i have seen. we will make a offer after talking to the bank but it will but less then what he is asking. oh , there was a faded name on the back "sandy hook" I know is is a place on whidby island but does it ring any bells. the current owner is the second owner . on the inside of the cabin it looks like the rub rail has been replaced at one time because the attachment points are badly covered with calking. we are still looking as i wont give 30,000 for this boat and do not think he will take less. if any body sees or hears of one let us know. and some of you need to trade up to 25 soon. |

Quote: | the hull needs to be repainted too. |
Keep in mind that the hull was not "painted" originally. The color and finish comes out of the mold in the gelcoat, and painting it is in no way restoring it.

About five hundred bucks, but worth it in my opinion.

If the wood floor is fastened to the hull (screws, glue, whatever), that would be spooky.
The year 2000 Hondas is a good thing.
When we bought the TyBoo22 in 2001 it was a 1987 hull, sound with a restorable finish, and had year 2000 Hondas (75 and 8hp) with next to no hours. No electronics. The trailer (1987 EZ Loader) was in good shape. We bought it through a dealer and paid $22,700. Two and a half years later, with 900 hours on the motor, we sold it for the same price. I had put some money into it (windlass, tabs, fuel tanks, etc.), but figured the 900 hours of use should cost me something.
It struck me when I read your post about this boat that the situation is the pretty much the same. The age of the hull you're looking at is about the same as the age of the one we bought when we bought it. The accessories/needs are similar. It seems to me the price should be closer to similar, too. And if the only way to restore the hull finish is with paint, it should make you wonder how it got that way.
When it is all said and done, though, the value of a used boat is determined only by agreement between the buyer and seller.
Best of luck to you. And hey - winter is coming, so there is no need to rush just yet. _________________ TyBoo Mike

some were along the line the bottom has been painted with anti fouling paint and now looks like sh*t. its easier to paint it back smooth then to sand it back smooth. thanks for the comparison on price. |
