The first time I met Caty (& Steve) was the April 2007 Cathlamet gathering on the Columbia River. It was a nice sunny day and Amy was sleeping below as we neared the entrance when I noticed the CatyMae anchored trying their luck at some fishing. I motored up next to her (Steve was sleeping as well) and said with an ear-to-ear grin “I know you”! I truly was excited to meet this person who I had read so many posts and felt a connection with through our wonderful cyber-community. I thought she might think I was nuts but instead I received a contagious smile and extremely enthusiastic response which made me feel very welcome!

Space was tight so they rafted up to us when they returned from fishing with a nice salmon. In talking with her and Steve over the weekend you could tell how much they loved fishing and being on their boat. We really enjoyed connecting with our neighbors on that trip. The posts now meant even more to me after getting to know them. I saw them at Newport once over the summer and was able to say hello.

At the Cathlamet gathering earlier this year I sat down beside Caty and heard a humorous story from Steve that had all three of us laughing so hard it hurt. The following morning I was able to see them off as they left early and we still were laughing about us laughing so hard.

-----------------------
Amy and I were traveling in our vehicle when Steve called me around 7:30 am Saturday morning August 9th to let me know that Caty was no longer with us and he asked me to share this with everyone here. I believe he said it occurred the day before due to complications with an aggressive type of cancer.
-----------------------

Words can’t even begin to express what I want to say. She was just wonderful to be around and I’m thankful for the time I did spend with her. I know in my heart that Caty was a gift and a blessing to everyone that knew her…she will be missed!

I truly hope the healing goes well for Steve, family and friends…

Our sincerest condolences,

John (& Amy)

So sorry to hear of the sudden loss of CatyMae.

In reading her posts, her great sense of humor and friendliness always came through with wonderful charm and radiance.

We will miss her sadly. She was a great friend and C-Brat.

Our condolences to Steve and the rest of her family and friends.

Steve, our heart-felt sympathy goes out to you and your family. We never got to meet Caty in person, but corresponded via PM and on this forum. What great spunk! Her wonderful spirit and sense of humor will be missed. The Brats have lost a good friend.

Our condolences,
Jim & Joan Bathurst

Toni and I send our sincere condolences to Steve and all that were close to this wonderful woman. She was such a special part of the C-Brat family, her compassion for boating and fishing is only a small part of what Caty was about. She leaves us with lasting memories.

This just makes anything else happening inconsequential. For the first time I am completely at a loss for words, except I hope Steve knows that we are all thinking about him and remembering Caty fondly.

We are indeed heartbroken to read about CatyMae. We first met her at the Sequim CBGT 2005. Immediately felt at ease with her. Such a warm and caring person. Later on at other CBGTs we'd share many a laugh.

Our sincere condolences to the family of CatyMae. We will miss you CatyMae, we'll miss you!

I too am speechless. Condolences to Steve and his family. Caty will surely be missed by those who knew her, be it in person or on this C-Brat family site. Caty, is still an integral part of our C-Brat family.

I was stunned with John's post about CatyMae. How could this be? Caty was so full of life, and had a smile that touched everyone who knew her. My sincere condolences to Steve, and the rest of the family. Caty was a special person, who brought a spirit of joy and happiness into so many lives. She will be missed by all of us here on the C-Brat site.

Caty's spirit and smile will remain with us.

Robbi

It is very difficult to describe Caty Mae. I knew her for only a few short years, and she became more, rather than less indescribable over time.

I guess the closest I can come is to use the best traits of other friends. She had a lot of Patty's spunk; Robbi's love of the water and the creatures in it; Cynthia's love of life; Ruth's kindness; El's sense of adventure, and Brock's goodness. All together in one very special person.

My girls and I will miss her very much. We offer our warmest thoughts for Steve and all of Caty's family.

Mike
