I have an R25 and this weekend the stern truster quit. It's not a shear pin, the motor doesn't run at all. The front one still works fine. I did find a blown 7.5 amp fuse blown in the battery compartment but I didn't have any replacements with me. I don't know if thats the problem or not but would like some help with this. Thanks, Capn Russ |

Two weeks ago my stern thruster on my R25 quit. In my case, we hauled her out and found the whole apparatus, cowling, tube, etc, encrusted with barnacles...so much so that the hole was almost closed up.
Probably not your problem but worth checking. |

Ok, I fixed the thruster fuse that was blown. Now the thruster clicks (solenoid clicks) that is but the thruster does not run. The fuse is holding but no thruster. I checked the voltage at the thruster and it only drops a few tenths from 13.3 to 13.1 volts. This boat is a 2007, I've owned it for about a month and so far I have had a blown fuse on the thruster (fixed) now the thruster doesn't work. It has to be something internal to the thruster. I have had a bilge pump fail. The autopilot has stopped working consistantly. This, in my opinion is not good for a boat that's not even 2 yrs old. Perhaps I bought a lemon. Everyone else seems to love these boats. Not such a good start for me. |

Sorry to hear of your problems, Russ. Have you checked for barnacles? I would think that if barnacles (or anything else) prevented the shaft from turning, the fuse would blow again. Still worth checking whether or not it will turn if you push the blade with a tool.
I was recently part of a prolonged exorcism on an autopilot (Raymarine product on a sailboat). After lots of setting and recalibrating, we found a source of interference near the compass. With that removed, problems remained. Software was upgraded, and problems continued. Finally the brain and compass were replaced, and all seems OK.
I read the other day (in Lats and Atts?) about a new type of bilge pump float switch which may replace the mercury ones common in most boats. _________________ Gulf Island Sails |

Waterwitch switches are great. They are electronic sensor based. It is a
block of epoxy with two silver washers exposed ad three wires coming
out. I have mine set so just about every last drop gets sucked up.

My problem was barnacles...it was full of them.
Complicated by the fact that they did not put proper paint on the assembly when it was installed.

Yes there were some barnicles and I cleaned the units as good as I could. The prop on the thruster is free to turn by hand. The fuse is holding. I'm pretty sure the problem is in the thruster. Thanks for any and all help and suggestions. |

Russ,
check to see if the hinges on the over heads effect the flux gate. Tv might also be the culprit. I had trouble setting track .
Sorry for all your problems.
Maybe I can meet you guys down there this winter.

Thanks for your help capt d. I took it out this past weekend and the autopilot worked just fine. before that I found a 7.5 amp fuse in the battery compartment that was blown and I replaced it. I don't know what it's for but that may have been what fixed the problem? I really don't know but it worked ok this time. If you know what that fuse is for please let me know. It's a spade type automotive fuse.[/i] |
