OK, for the grammar gurus out there...what is the plural of "C-Dory"? Now, the plural of "dory" according to dictionary.com (ain't that a kick? Now the old-fashioned paper dictionary is completely obsolete, it never could keep up with usage anyway...) is "dories." But C-Dory is a brand name. So somehow "C-Dories" does not look right. I favor and generally use "C-Dorys." For sure, I know it is not "C-Dory's," as the apostrophy-s is NEVER plural but rather either a contraction or the possessive, no matter how many people massacre that one. Hey - STOP that snoring and pay attention over there!
So, I put it to all of you, and especially to Jeff Messmer and Scott Matthews - how do you refer to multiple boats of the C-Dory persuasion? And DON'T say C-Pod! Is it "C-Dories" or "C-Dorys" or what?? Inquiring minds (with nothing better to do at 5:00 pm on a Friday afternoon) want to know! _________________

C-Dorys. Proper nouns ending in Y are never changed to IES for the plural form.
Google it - you'll find a bunch of references like this (about 1/3 down under "Special Cases".) _________________

I would say C-Dory should be both singular and plural. Similar to elk, deer et al. Don't see many elks or deers. Besides, "There goes a pod of C-Dory" sounds rather sophisticated.

My choice, a "Symphony of C-Dorys", would settle this discussion on a really pleasant note. _________________ Bill & Evelyn Macdonald

Actually, I think the term for multiple C-Dorys used to be "Dusty's Place" or "Lyle's Lair" those guys are hoarders |
