Starcrafttom - been out for halibut?

I have been stuck in driftboats on the Yakima R., and not bringing many fish to hand. Shocked

I wanted to get out last weekend but my buddy bailed on me and Tom was out of town. I know of a couple caught out on the banks in the straight, The president of my local fishing club nailed a 132 pounder out there. Partridge /Dallas and Mcurdy are what I've heard have kicked out a couple fish. I'd like to get out this weekend, depending on how the weather pans out. Good Luck!!

My PSA chapter had a group outing for halibut last weekend but had very poor luck. Part of it was the lumpy water, though.

Parking lot at Keystone was overflowing last weekend but not many reports of fish. Talked with a couple of people who managed to get out and they said same.

I know it was a beautiful day. It was really last minute that my buddy John bagged out. I was pretty frustrated, made 1 or 2 calls then just gave up. Next time. Hopefully we get some good weather in the next week or so, and I can try to get out there.

I ran the boat up into the Strait last Saturday, but no fish (normal for me). My buddies boat had one halibut around 25#. The Thursday Times quoted someone stating the the low tides last weekend hurt the fishing. Does anyone know why?

It's not so much the low tides as the current associated with the large tidal movements. This just makes it hard to fish deep. It's easier to drift for deep halibut in slower tidal movements and near slack.

we were up at winter harbour last week and got 2 feeder springs about 10 pounds and a 68# and 134# halibut, 4 snappers and 20# of shrimp tails and a dozen nice crabs. not bad for the first trip out with our c-dory!
