My 16 Angler is supposed to be going into the mold this week. She's going to be hanging off the mooring ball, when not in use, in front of the house from June thru Oct. and I'm questioning the advisability if having a second battery and bilge pump installed.
Does anyone have an opinion on this subject or anything else I should be thinking about at this stage?
Thanks, Al |

Al-
Will the boat have a mooring cover? Or a Bimini and/or cockpit enclosure?
How often and how much does it rain where you live?
How hard or bothersome will it be for you to check it after it rains?
What does your insurance cover for a moored boat that sinks?
How much would the peace of mind of having a second pump be worth?
A Second battery, bilge pump, and switch may cost something in the neighborhood of $200. (Parts only.)
Will you have any use for the extra capacity of a second battery besides the second bilge pump? Do you need it anyway?
Usually the second bilge pump is installed with the float higher than the first to act as a back up.
Only you can make the final call, but if it saved your boat (AND MOTOR) once..............

Joe, The only electronics I'm adding is a small plotter/fishfinder. This is going to be the "keep it simple " boat. It rains a bit in the Puget Sound and passing ferries/boats can throw up a wake, but it will have a mooring cover when out there. Constantly paddling out there in a kayak, pulling myself up onto the swim platform and adding to the number of times I'll get dumped into the 49 degree water would be bothersome.
When I was trying to see a 16 Angler (never did), I never thought to look at the cruiser for where, how large etc the bilge is. I imagine having another pump and 2 power supplies would provide a certain amount of security, but I don't even know if the bilge is large enough for 2 pumps or whether adding a second battery to a 16 creates other problems. If I were to add another battery should it be on the opposite side for balance or maybe up front under lock and key and for cg in helping to keep the nose down (no trim tabs). There isn't much information/detail on the C-Dory website and no dealers, or even the factory, have any of these 16 Anglers to "crawl around" in.
I was a big boat guy and as you can see I'm really new at this, but I'm really looking forward to "less is more".
Thanks, Al |

I would put on a cockpit cover (slant back) and a solar pannel. I always think that a second battery is almost essential. The slant back will keep water and any debris out of the cockpit and cabin. The solar pannel will assure that the battery is fully charged. _________________ Bob Austin

I'd go with what Dr Bob said, and I'd probably put in the 2nd pump.
