I have a small 12' aluminum fishing boat (Gregor H22 - 177 lbs for the boat, 100 lbs for the 9.9 hp Mercury, and not much for a small single axle trailer) and was thinking of bolting up or welding up a Fulton tongue swing so the rig will fit in a smaller area of my garage. Anyone have experience with this conversion, the internet has mixed reviews but the whole rig, boat, trailer and motor moves easily by hand when off the hitch.

I have a swing away hitch/ tongue on my duck boat and it works great. 16 ft valco with a 60 hp jet. I have seen these used on boats far larger then our Cdorys. Lots of large ski boats and small cruisers use them. Your little boat will not be problem.

I have one on my 14 foot day sailer trailer and my 2005 16 foot C Dory. The one on the C Dory came with the trailer. I installed the one of the sailboat trailer two years ago. They are both on a 3" box tongue and rated at 3K lbs. GTW. More than enough.

It looks like Fulton may have improved the hinge. The one that I put on the day sailer has a different, sturdier design. The one on the C Dory trailer, while appearing stout enough (and now having 3K miles on it just since I bought it) has a little more play in the hinge, which causes maybe a little over an inch of play at the ball.

Besides not looking good, it can be frustrating. When using the wheel jack, I have to go up an extra inch or more to get it to pop off of the ball just because of the play in the hinge. It still works fine, but I'm thinking of replacing it with this other style.
