I only have one set unspoken for....and I will try to get all 17 sets shipped tomorrow....there's one set to be delivered and one set for me...

Hopefully I contacted everyone who wanted one and did not send an address...most of you were great about that....so I will really try to get everything done quickly.....

Don't send me any money... I used Sue's money... to buy the darn things..... at least her credit card... and don't send anything until you get your set...

Don't worry if you diden't order a set this time... I will be doing this on a continuing basis....but will wait until I get 5 folks that want sets before I order.... (they come in cases of 10 hatches)

Joel,
I would like 2 of the Hatch covers. Glad to pay for them and
something for the hassle of re-packing them and shipping.

Appreciate your diligence in running these down and getting
them. Those hatch covers C-Dory has been using are a real
pain in the b____.

Thanks,

Mark on 3rd Byte

The first batch of 40 hatches is all spoken for.....but I already have two folks on the list ....as soon as I get five on the list I will order another case of them...(probably next week)...

Today, all day. Sue and I have been packing them, and running back and fourth to town ...... hopefully get the first 20 sets all mailed, UPS and FedEx shipped tomorrow....

EXPECT THEM SOON....
everyone will get theirs this coming week, with the exception of the two guys from Alaska that wanted theirs USPS Priority and they might take up to 2 weeks....

The last ones went out this morning....everyone that sent me their address will get them....The next batch should be here on Friday so hopefully next Monday I will be sending out more.... I am just ordering one case of 10 at a time... so I will be able to send them as folks need them....I also will keep some so if anyone local needs a set I will have them.....

Most went out FedEx but some I had to send USPS Priority...now that I have a system it is not so hard... I expect once folks see how nice they are I will have lots more folks wanting them.

I just heard from Cemill ....He has a 1987 boat with the early style hatches...and he said the new hatches will not work on early boats...

Frozen donuts arrived today. A little tough to open the box, the hatches were packed suitable for Neanderthal handling.

Very much appreciated, Joel.

Joel;

Hatch covers arrived today and they look great. Has anyone put them in? - 1) how did it go? - 2) what if any problems do I have to look forward to?

Razz OK - to all that bought the new and improved covers – What about a contest as to the best use for the old ones?

Larry K

P. S. Joel you must have a loving and understanding wife to let you use her credit card. Tell her thanks for me.

The box was a bit tough to open, but what a great surprise! I didn't expect that kind of superior service. Thanks to all involved.

I am going to take my old hatches and mount them on the raised floor in front of the seats. (where your feet rest in the CD-19) Then I can easily get to my tools which are stored there and are a PAIN to get to.
Now, I think that this is an instant contest winner. Yup, for sure.

I wish that I could take credit for this idea, but it was Joe of R-Matey who did this refit at least a year ago. It is cool!

Thank you, Chica

As usual I'm a little confused. I don't have any problems with my lazerette hatches leaking, have different type hatches been used throughout the years? Is this only a problem with newer boats or have I just not been paying attention?

Some of the older boats have a fiberglass cover that fully covers the access. A much better cover than the ones they are installing on the newer (mid 90s?) boats. I don't know what year they changed, but the ones they are using are NOT rated for horizontal applications. They allow water to gather in the seam and when you open them, the water goes into the lazerette.
When the factory replaced my boat, I had to insist that they do NOT use the current style cover. I met with Scot and Ricardo at the boat show earlier this year and showed them the difference.
These covers are rated for both horizontal and vertical applications and completely cover the access opening-- no water infiltration in the lazerettes.

Cheers,
Roger

Larry K/ The Odyssey.

My boat is a 2004 model and I installed my covers today. It was a straight forward job and you won't have a problem. The factory had used 5200 as a sealant, so getting the old ones off was the most time consuming part of the job. I ended up taping around the perimeter of the old covers with a plastic automotive masking tape to protect the deck and worked a very thin paring knife under and around the frame to cut through the old sealant. Plastic electrical tape would probably work just as well. I tried using several other tools including fish line but nothing worked as good as this. The existing cut out in the deck does not leave you much room for new screw holes on the hinge and clasp side of the cover. Fore and aft there is plenty of room. I found that I had to the hug the outside edge of the deck/gunnel to allow for enough room on each side for new holes. I bedded my covers with Boat Life Marine Sealant.
Best regards,
Rollie/C-Batical

Rollie,

Did you have to expand the size of the hole at all? If so, what tool did you use?

Thanks,

Rob
