My cushings in the cabin are dirty and in need of a cleaning
Anyone know of a good product to use without removing covers
Don’t know if covers are removable. Most are stapled to a board
Anyhow any help would be appreciated
Tried using Bissell carpet cleaner machine to no avail

We had diesel on our interior cushions when we bought the CD22. We removed all the fabric, including the cloth stapled to the plywood bases. Washing the fabric in Dawn and a tiny bit of vinegar got all the fabric back to new. Really amazing. Then I bit the bullet and bought all new cushion material for around $1000. Like new now. The reassembly was very easy with a stapler and taking photos during the breakdown. By the way, all cushions are not created equal and hence the wide differences in price. Speaking with foam folks who work with marine materials was worth it to me. But there are cheaper ways to go about this. |

On the 25 we bought this year (and other boats)
We used a Bisslle Spot Clean Pro Heat pet". This has a heater in it to keep the solution hot. Different attachments are available for different models. Marie did most areas twice--Several spots require 3x.
We used Bissile Advanced Professional Deep Clean. Any spots we pre treated with "Incredible". Incredible is a product an antique restorer put us onto. You can get it at Bed Bath and Beyond in the Vacuum sections. Follow the instructions precisely.
It takes a lot of rubbing with the brush--and a lot of vacuuming to get as much of the water out as possible. The 25's cushions are all removable (two sides), except the helm seat--which was an after market. Since Jim has a 2007 25 he would have the exact same issues we have.
I was amazed at how much dirt we got out/off. It helps to frequently vacuum the upholstery, and put towels on it if there are pets, wet humans, or if any "boat work" is occurring nearby.
If you re-staple the material, use Monel metal not Stainless Steel staples. The SS will eventually rust. The Monel metal will not.
After cleaning and drying, we sprayed with two coats of 303 for fabric. _________________ Bob Austin

Patty here.A bottle (glass) of olive oil broke while traveling on land and as the galley door swung open and closed over and over the olive oil sprayed all over the cabin. Cushions were covered. I took the cushions out, sprayed them with Simple Green, scrubbed with a brush, rinsed with a hose, and voila! Like new. AND after our 8 month Great Loop they were pretty dirty. Same procedure only I added Oxiclean. Good luck. _________________

When we bought our C-Dory, we did not realize the original cushions had some sort of mildew. Cleaning the foam was not really an option, they were pretty bad, I believe we had a few pics in our album of the original foam. Our experience was similar to 'DW', we replaced the foam with marine grade materials, at a cost of about one boat unit-or $1,000. Not cheap, but well worth it in the long run. Since then, we were very cautious of any mold starting to take hold in the boat, and quickly took steps to eliminate it. In our part of the country, we store out boats for the winter (Fresh Water gets pretty 'hard' below 32 Degs. F.) We would pull the cushions out of the boat before it went into storage, just to prevent a repeat. That seemed to work for us.
