The Anacapa Yacht Club is cruising out to Anacapa Island this Sunday (April 13) for a lunch cruise.
You're welcome to come join us if you want.
Most of us will be anchored in Frenchy's Cove by 11:00- if the weather picks up, we will go around to Fishcamp on the outside of the island.
Bring something to share and a dink to go from boat to boat. _________________ Roger

Steve,
We had a great time at the island. This was Sadie's first ride in a boat-- she did great.
Joel & Sue went over with us.
We had 9 boats cruise over and anchor at Frenchy's on Anacapa Island.
Wish I had taken my dive gear--- the water was CLEAR.
Our ride today--- many thanks to Bob Nahm, Catalina Yacht Anchorage, for the loan of the 25' Ranger Tug

Nice pics Roger, thanks for posting. Did any of you get "Ranger Fever"? Looked like you all were enjoying the ride for sure. I didn't see Miles all weekend, friend's birthday party...but my daughter was in town from Cal Poly, had a fine motorcycle ride Saturday to Marina Del Rey and golfing Sunday. Too many choices, so little time... |

I sure did....Roger let me drive a bunch...and what a thrill...it wanders a bit...but the power was good...(110hp Yanmar) and it is real new so I didn't open it up...did take it up to about 16mph but didn't want to press the motor so didn't stay at that speed long... it cruised effortlessly at 12.5mpg... running 2900rpm...we went 33.5 miles and burned (I think ) about 5 gallons of diesel... I gotta say...it was a wonderful ride...very comfortable cruising... easy.
What I most liked about the tug was when we were at anchor there was a ton of flys out.... (calm winds...lotsa bird droppings in the area) and we all ate in the cabin comfortably at the table...(4 of us) and had several groups come aboard to visit..(inside the cabin) and we were not cramped...that cabin feels much larger than I expected.
The quality and fit of the boat was just excellent... top quality.. Ranger sure has made a nice boat.
The main thing I noticed was....First thing I would install is a autopilot...cruising at that speed is tiring at the wheel...enjoyable..but tiring
Joel

Joel and Roger,
The day you picked was probably as flat calm as we can ever expect out of Channel Islands, and I was looking for some experience in 4-6 swells. From other posts, the impression I've gotten is that it tends to yaw quite a bit in a following sea, and takes alot of water over the bow in head seas due to the lack of bow flare. I also experienced the same kind of steering wander when I took her out, and I concur with the need for an autopilot. _________________ Mike - Sealife |

Correction--- 12.5mph
Silly Joel-- he was so thrilled to that Sue let him be Captain, he forgot the difference between mpG & mpH.
I did notice that the thrusters are a must when backing up.
As I was backing out of the fuel dock, a couple of IDIOT kayakers cut right behind me. I had to hit forward hard to keep from running them over. The thrusters were not working and we got sideways in the dock. I had to jocky back and forth to turn around in the tight space.
