|
|
Hey Guys,
I would like to install a cabin fan under the factory overhead cabin shelf on my 22 Cruiser to reduce fogging, but am having a hard time finding one. I thought someone had found a 12 volt model that folds up when not in use. I really would like one that isn't obstructing the view through the center window when not in use. Does anyone have any information.
Thanks, Jim

Jim- I don't remember the fold up fan discussion (there are a number of portable ones on the market that do have a base with dry cells in them for power, hoever).
What I did was to use a Carlyn model CESMI#Z303200,
Boat US order #379968 = a$19.99
and mount it to a Stanley brand utility clamp (like a big clothes pin in design) with machine screws, then added a 8 foot 2-wire cord with cigarette lighter style plug, so as to be able to mount it on the back edge of the shelf, or anywhere else necessary with a lipped surface.
The fan is a one speed affair, with 8 click stop horizontal positions for stationary use (plus tilt), and also has a switched 90 degree power sweep side to side.
As such it can be moved all over the back end of he shelf as well as anywhere else in the cabin that it is neeeded for de-fogging, cooling, or ventilation.
In very warm weather, it can be a life saver, and is especially useful at night when trying to sleep in a hot cabin.
It has a 1.2 amp draw, is 9" high overall, with a 6 3/4" fan cage, and a 5 1/2" fan blade.
If you look at all the different fans available out there, it seens impossible to beat this one on features for the price.

Jim,
I like the set up that I have on MacNaughty III. It is from West Marine, Model 747DC, 12 volts with a cigarette lighter plug. Price is $39.95. You can see my mounting on the photo albums, page 9, pictures 27 and 28. It has 2 speeds and the base is spring loaded. To turn it from one side of the cabin to the other, you just gently pull down and it spins to wherever you want it.

Let me plug one of my alltime favorite products. The Caframo 747 DC fan. (Defender $29.99; WM $47.49, take your Defender cat. to the store).
Uses .8 amp at high .5 at low on my Blue Sea meter. They say 5.9 amps. No cage very high air volume. Can be mounted with suction cup, screws or optional clothespin type clamp.
This is the cruiser's choice in Mexico.
Highly recommended.

Mason,
Thanks for the cabin fan information. When I was in your Picture Album I saw the pic of the top rack that Bolton made for you. It's a think of beauty, nothing like seeing a nice piece of stainless work. If I might ask, What was the cost for this fabrication?

West Marine has a Jet Fan at 20.00 per copy that will fold flat to the bottom of the cabin shelf and is adjustable to any angle. I put 2 of them in 2nd Byte and was very satisfied with them. They also have a similar looking fan, a Hella Turbo fan at 70.00 per. The latter is probably a better fan but I don't know if will fold up out of the way like the Jet will. _________________ Mark on Mighty Bite |

Terry,
Scheduled pick-up date for the new boat is June 23rd. We are leaving Fairbanks either tomorrow or the next day. That will put us down there a little early but that's cool.
As to the name 2nd, 3rd or ?, we're still looking for a final stroke of inspiration. Hmmm. Why is the name so tough? We just picked up a 7 wk old pointing labrador pup and had no problem with naming him, Jazz. Guess it's the CD thing. |

I had a Catalina 27 I named Jazz. Love that music.
With a new lab puppy, maybe you should have got a CD 25.
Will you and Elisabeth be able to stay around for the Blakley weekend ?

Terry,
Yeah, Jazz is cool! This pup was the runt of the litter and hopefully he won't get too big.
Our boating season is so short up here and a good part of it is already gone, so as much as I would like to make Blakely, it's not possible. We'll be heading home right after the initial sea trial. |

Jim, I picked up a fan at WM for about 20 bucks if I remember right. 12V swivels 360 and folds up under the shelf if you want to do that. One speed motor.
