I hope no one will consider this to be product endorsement... I'd hate to lose my amateur status here. Like many others, we've had problems with our side sliding windows being difficult to slide. One suggestion we received here was to use Liquid Rollers (available in a spray can). Well, we couldn't find it locally, but picked up a can at our closest West Marine (a scant 170 miles away). Works great! Thumbs Up

And here's the good deal: I receive regular e-mails from West Marine that I usually glance at and delete. Right now, they have a "coupon book" that you print out and take into the stores, and one of the items is Liquid Rollers - buy one get one free (limited time offer). Just thought I'd pass along this tidbit.

http://www.westmarine.com/CouponBook_08/?cid=E080207DD

I've tried silicone, sail track lube, scrubbing with a small brush, and large doses of swearing to get the windows to move better. None of that made much difference, but with the Liquid Rollers, opening the windows is a one-hand operation.

Usual disclaimers apply: I have no affiliation with the company, other than buying large quantities of stock just before making this post, no one I know (other than my ex-brother-in-law, who still owes me money) works for the company, keep this product away from children (unless you can get them to go out and clean your windows at the same time), for external use only, void where prohibited by law, don't get pissy with me if you fling your windows right out of the track after using this stuff.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Thanks for the tip. A little more info will be greatly appreciated. How do you apply it? Does it go on the brushes at the sides of the track -- or on the glass - or to the bottom of the window track? Thanks.

I use it on the brushes and the entire track. At least as much as I can get to it. That stuff is silicon on steroids. Actually use it on my home sliding window tracks, sliding glass door tracks, and if there's any left over I apply it to the front half of the bunkers on my boat trailer. Even carry a can in the RV to spray stuff I don't want dust collecting petroleum products on.

Thanks for the Heads Up, Jim. We have four (4) West Marine stores within 25 miles, so it's no big deal to drop in to one of their toy stores for goodies. One of 'em even specializes in trailer boat stuff....

Oh, why just the front half of the bunkers? 'Cause it keeps the boat from wagging it's tail on corners when yer towing and it isn't really needed on the rear part. Makes winching a snap as well....
Don

Jim , you forgot the part about whether it contains chemicals known to the state of California to be carcinogenic and whether it can be used during pregnancy .
I always thought it [ Liquid Rollers] was simply repackaged dry silicone spray , but I will now have to get some for my old 25 Cruise Ship windows that sometimes require a crowbar to open .

Thanks for the tip Jim. I have some, been waiting to 'remember' to use in on the trailer bunks next time I'm out and 'before' I retrieve the trailer when the bunks are dry. I'll have to tie wrap the can to my keys I guess...

Don, glad you said that about the 'front' part of the bunk, I have a tendency that if a little is good, well a lot ... Smile

I printed the coupon and will pick up a couple of cans this week.

My port window sticks and Terri tells me if it was the starboard window, I would have found a solution for it by now. I have cleaned the tracks, tried three different kinds of fantastic and absolutely amazing lubricants that were guaranteed to work and I even tried widening the tracks. Nothing has worked.

I hope this does it.

I hope it works as well for you as it has for us, Dave. When we are out cruising, the salt really builds up, with no way to rinse the windows. I've tried all the other stuff, too, and this is the only thing that has worked. We put it on the brushes, in the tracks, sprayed behind the window, then opened it, then sprayed in front of the window (in the track), and closed it. Then let it dry before heading out.

The windows slid open with ease. After getting a salt spray shower out in the Gulf, and then a fresh water rinse back home, they opened with ease. More repeats of the same, resulted in easy opening. I don't know how long this stuff lasts, but so far, so good.

Our windows had been stuck to the point that we had one of us on the inside pulling and one on the outside pushing to get 'em open. And now... one handed... really. Very Happy

I also printed out the coupon and went to get my two cans at the Portland WM along with a inline water filter that I have been wanting. When we got to WM we were told sorry we are out of the filter you want, so we went over to get the spray and was told Hmm that stuff must be on sale we are out.
We walked over to Joe's approx. 500' away and what do you know there was the filter 50% less money and what do you know they also had the exact same spray on sale for $3.97 (reg. price $5.97) I asked them if they would honor my coupon from WM and they said sure no problem. We left very happy campers !
Guess who is getting my money ! Ruthi says it pays to shop around !

We have been using the liquid rollers for several years on the "fuzzy slides" on boat windows and for us, it has worked better than the other silicone sprays--not sure why.

Big Dave,

So West Marine's REGULAR price is $13.99 and they will sell it on coupon for only $7.00 each!! (If you buy two!!) Crook

And, Joe's regular price is $5.97 and on sale for $2.97 AND you only have to buy one!! Disgust

It's no wonder that the president of West Marine can afford an extremely large yacht!! Just price your products outrageously high and then pretend that they are on sale!! (And make your customers print out coupons to get a price that's higher than your competitions regular price.) Angry

Whoa, Big Dave - deal of the year! WM is rarely the best price, but will match the price. Personally, I'd rather buy from someone who is competitive all the time, but boat stuff places like you guys have in the PNW are tough to come by here. Good on you for finding that buy! Very Happy

Best wishes,
Jim B.
