We just picked up a long shaft Honda 2 horse. Anyone have great ideas for the storage of the outboard on a CD22? I love the mounting bracket one can buy for a CD25, but alas there is no rail on a CD22 for that process. I do have the rail that runs slightly above the engines - anyone figured out how to mount something to this?  I really don't want to have it hanging out in the cockpit while underway or even think about laying it down on the roof.  Something a bit more sturdy would be nice - maybe even a troller mount? I have twin Hondas in the back now.

Based on my experience, I think you are going to have real trouble trying to propel a CD22 with a 2HP.

We have the same Honda 2 LS as you and used to put a foam pad on the roof, tie the OB down and then put our Achilles LT-4 on top of the OB and tie that to the rails, as well.
Your best bet, and one we're going to duplicate can be found in C-Dancer's album. It will work great, providing you have the factory SS rail across the splashwell.

I thought you couldn't lay a 4-stroke on its side

You have to lay it on its side, but only the side that has the "nubs" or supports for that purpose. Look at your Honda and you'll see what I mean.
You can't support a four stroke on its "back", as you would a two stroke.

Bryrick,
I have been pondering the same question. I think what I will do is to build a mount that would ride in the splash well, then lay the H2 across the well, proper side up. and as far forward as possible. I am thinking that a cradle for the lower unit, and the mount clamps should hold it securely.
One would have to be careful with main engine tilt, etc., but I think it would work. Before I get too carried away, I plan to get busy with a tape measure.

You can lay a 4-stroke down; it just has to be on the correct side (they usually have "feet" on the lay down side).

I think the biggest challenge is going to be mounting it to the rear as I've got twins. I have been thinking of adding the swim step and then mounting it from there. But I've already got a latter for the side so thats kind of redundant.  I did notice though a CD22 in one of the albums that had twins and an engine mount too on the Port side. It looked real sharp all done up.  |

I guess I'll chime in although I don't have a picture of it in action. I think my system is similar to what you described bshillam. I used the transom bar as the horizontal rail for the rail mount poly board I bought at West Marine. I bought a used 3' stainless steel bar to insert into the vertical hole of the poly board. I bought a couple of pieces of ss hardware. One called an outside eye end that I screwed on the bottom of the vertical bar and the other a deck base which I screwed onto the bottom of the splash well and then used the pin to connect to the outside eye. I then put a square of rubber material on the bottom of the splash well where the skeg sits to protect the fiberglass. It works really well and looks pretty cool, 3 Suzi's all in a row!

Just a thought, but how about mounting it to the outside of the back of the cabin wall, opposite side from the door swinging open. This gets the extra weight as far forward as possible (except in the cabin or on the bow). Either fab a bracket or see if one of those Weaver accessories will adapt. I'd mount it so the engine was facing sideways for minimum intrusion into the cockpit. Might have to reenforce the wall?
