Howdy, I plan to retire this spring again and I am very seriously looking at purchasing a used CD22. I have been looking at the Evenrude eTech and am impressed with the specs on paper. Does anyone out there have any problems with the eTech, any suggestions on power for the CD22, I will be cruising and am not in a hurry to get anywhere. Range and GPH are my main concerns, I plan to live on the water as much as I can in the summer touring these great United States. Input or suggestions would be appreciated. I have been boating for 45 years and have owned mostly 25-45 ft. boats, and have run rivers and lakes coast to coast. Thanks

Welcome Aboard! No better boat for "Touring" than the C Dory 22.

Go to "The Hull Truth" forum. You will find several hunded posts about the Etec 90 there. Generally they reports are favorable, and the engine is low maintance, good power and reliable. There have been a few reports of problems with the 90's, but more with the V 6's--200's etc.

There seem to be some folks on this forum who have the Etecs with no problems. I had an Evinrude on the 22 I sold. The engine developed an oil pump problem when I was selling the boat. We had probelms finding a dealer to work on the engine. That sort of soured me on the brand, although I have owned OMC (long gone) products for many years almost exclusively. (Currently I own Hondas, Suzuki's and a Yahama).

Welcome Chief, The only Etec problems I have ever heard of had to do with COLD WATER <40deg or Cold Weather running. Engine not getting warm enough to operate / running too rich. This was 4-5 yrs back when they first came out with the system? I am a(f100) 4 stroke Yamaha guy the f80-f115 will do very well on a 22 C-dory Mr. Green Beer
