I want to mount my Perko Rod Holders between the gas fill cap and the skid plate on the gunwale. Those of you who have done this what have you used for a backing plate. How thick is the gunnel and did you use any tricks to drill the 65 degree angle?

Any suggestions will be helpful.

I plan to mount my Scotty down rigger in the gimbal mount so want something stout.

I forgot to mention the Scotty instructions for the gimbal mount indicate that you can only mount the downrigger with the outrigger pointing aft (not to the side) This may call for additional reinforcement.

I've been living on borrowed time! I pull crab pots that weigh about 100 pounds with the Scotty gimbal and electric davit - troll with them pointed out -- hmmmm. Guess I should have read the book.

NO indeed, Ray.

I've got an electric one, but the tab is closer to 850-900 bucks. I've heard good things about the cheaper one and think Pat (Daydream) has one of those. My shrimp and crab pots are commercial size and HEAVY - so the heavy-duty motor really makes a difference. I'm too fumble-fingered and careless to use the gas one like Roger has, or I'd have one. Much faster and stronger.
