Hi all,

Has anyone ventured to "close off" the port side cabin of the CD16 Cruiser ? I would like offer the berth and head more privacy by designing an arrangement similar to the CD16 Angler, but with a with a sliding door. Secondary reason; to provide permanent shelf space ahead of the companion seat and do away with the stock removable shelf.

I am quite meticulous with design and tools but would appreciate input if anyone has done this with or without resulting pitfalls or problems. The 16' is as big a boat I anticipate ever owning so I am ultimately trying to arrange the interior for my needs. Photos would be appreciated, if any. Material TBD but anticipate marine ply with GRP finish or Starboard.

I cannot comment on the layout, but for materials, consider the DecraGuard: http://www.olypanel.com/industrials/
This or similar material is the origional material used in the boats for interior. It will be easier to work with, easier to build with, cost less and be lighter than covering with fiberglass. Starboard, is fine for pannels, but you cannot glue it easily. You can screw Starboard--but it is quite expensive and fairly heavy. Generally one likes to keep modifications fairly light in weight. Sliding doors can be a problem in boats--unless they are positatively secured at all times.

This is too funny! I have an Angler and have been seriously considering opening up the port side of the cuddy to make it more like a Cruiser! It seems whatever we have, we have a natural urge to change it!

I have thought about doing it with 'canvas' and some aluminum pipes.
